| I have a question about the raw diet if that is ok... When you say raw.. do you mean raw chicken like what we buy at the grocery store.. hamburger??? steak? I am very curious to know just exactly what we would be feeding our babies..

| I am having problems with Odie and his diet.. he is not eating like he was about 1 week ago.. he is doing the plate dance around his food.. because I was concerned I gave him some cooked meat and he ate that.. when I went to the health food store for pets last evening the girl said that I was spoiling Odie to stop and just let him get really hungry.. He is only 1 lb 8 ozs / will be 13 weeks.. I am not comfortable letting him NOT eat.. So I am now trying Merrick to see if he will eat that ... although he is still plate dancing.. he did eat so that is good. but the raw diet makes sense to me and I wanted to know all about it before I jump into another change in Odie's system. .

By buying things from the grocery store or butcher, you'd be feeding prey-model. This takes more research to make sure you do it correctly, but there are members here that do it and i'm sure would be willing to help you. You'll want to feed raw, meaty bones, muscle meat, and a small amount of organs throughout the week.

| Lucy has been on raw for two weeks now and she is crazy for it after a hesitant start. I tried her on EVERYTHING (seriously, I have so much food she would not eat I'm going to take it to our shelter this weekend). For the first time she cleans her plate and she has stopped going after the cat's food If she continues to do well with it I will be switching my cats to raw also. Ann and Michelle are great sources of information for feeding raw and always willing to help!

| raw diet Just wanted to reply on the raw diet. Love it for my guy. Wish someone would have told me to take the bones out by hand. Had a problem with my small guy until I debone every medallion. I use Primal and Nature's Variety. Great breath and small stools. Think it is the best |

| I think it was Ellie that said never would she feed raw..well, I agree with her 100%...all of our dogs have always lived up in to their late teens, and every one of them was on dog food..Heck, our chihuahua died at 19, he was on purina all his life, our golden retriever was put down because of cancer at 18, she was on kibbles and chunks..I'm not going to give raw anything to any of mine...what do they say, if it's not good enough for us, it shouldn't be good enough for them..Would you eat raw chicken?? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What problems? There shouldn't be a need to pick them out. If you do pick them out, you need to then supplement w/ calcium. They should be "fine" enough for easy consumption - I've never heard of any problems.

But that's beside the point. Humans and Canines have COMPLETELY different digestive systems and completely different digestive enzymes in their chyme. But, ya know, we've been 'round this block about 1000 times now - so I really don't want to get into a whole big off topic thing here and ruin this post for the OP, as it always happens. Can we try to keep this kinda clean? We can always duke it out in another thread devoted just to a good, clean back-and-forth! LOL!

| to be fair to both sides i feed raw and i also do not lol miss buffey and bentley eat raw (AFS mini patties or NV medallions) and do very well on it...they scarf it up, have lots of energy, are growing up at a nice pace and have little poops that have zero smell (really!) gino does not do well on any raw i have given him (red meat, venison, lamb, chicken) .. it gave him horrible diarrhea ... he loved eating it though lol ... so gino gets canidae all life stages ... his poops are huge and smelly but no loose stools
