| Sick Baby Hello All I am new to this site. I am also a first time Yorkie owner. I have a male named Moose. He is a sweetie. Lately I have noticed that he is having more and more diarrhea. This morning I had to give him a bath he had it so bad. I called the vet yesterday and he said to take his food away which I did but it is still going on. I am going to call the vet but they are not there yet. Does anyone know what I could do to stop this until then. Also is there anything else that you think I should know in general about yorkies that you have learned from owning one. The breeder was great on information but I want to learn personally from others. Thanks so much for all your help. Melissa |

| Hi Melissa! Welcome to YorkieTalk. This site is a wealth of information. I have learned so much here. So sorry your baby is sick. I would follow the vet's instructions until you can reach him in the morning. How do his gums look? Do you know how to watch for hypoglycemia? Preventing that and keeping him from becoming dehydrated would be my main concerns until I could talk to the vet in the morning (well, later this morning).

| About a week or two after i got Callie she was having bad diarrhea so bad that I had to to buy wipes and wipe her hinny after she went we thought it was the food but then she cried in her cage one night to go outside and there was lots of blood and then she was pooing straight blood and we got her into the vet asap and they checked and found a parasite and we had to give her meds and after a few days she was getting back on track so the vet probably needs to do a stool check to rule that out.

| After Ranger had a bout w/ the bloody diarrhea, and had to be on IVs for several days, my vet told me that the next time I see signs of diarrhea, to give him 5ccs of Pepto (he's 4lbs) every one to two hours (1-3 doses depending on the severity). Pepto has a SAFE anti-inflammatory as well as the the stomach settling properties and prevents the intestines from inflaming and hemoraging. So far I have given it to him twice and he has only had one episode each time. We finally figured out it was his food, swaped it, and haven't had any more problems! Yay!! This does not replace the need to go to the vet if it is severe. They get dehydrated SO FAST!!
