| introduction to the list hello list, my name is gloria and I am a former breeder and I showed my dogs in conformation. My husband got injured at his work and I had to stop breeding to take care of him but I do show dogs for friends and others and in fact I am helping show three yorkies for the next two shows.......I love showing.......I hope to be able to help with any questions and my expertise is livershunt in the yorkie breed...I am president of the TSFMLS fund and if you are not familiar with Terri Shumsky then you missed the greatest yorkie breeder, judge and author of all time.......she lived to help the yorkie breed and has left a living legacy with her list and I feel honored to be able to carry on her work by helping all I can.......I might not do it as good as she did but I am doing it just like she was and not taking a back seat.......I got livershunt so have experience with the pain and the non support of breeders who will not live up to the problem..........hope I have not said too much as I only want to get the word out and help with any thing that i can......thank you for having me Gloria |

| thanks for the great welcomes Thank you so much for the great welcome from the members..........sounds like a great list and I am sure I will enjoy being here.........my aim in life is education about the yorkie breed.........being a breeder I am familiar with most health issues but livershunt is my main concern.......it is everywhere and the breeders instead of accepting that they have livershunt and dealing with it in a honest manner and saving the breed they come out with some of the worst excuses in the world.......my favourite is YOU CAUSED YOUR YORKIE TO GET LIVERSHUNT...........this is so stupid.......just go to Dr.Tobias site and you will see that this is an inherited disease and comes from birth........saying you caused it is there way of trying to get out of accepting responsibility.........well that is my speel for now.........now can someone tell me how to get my pic on there and any other little tricks to make it fun. | Gloria, welcome to Yorkie Talk. Your expertise will be welcome here. Please check out the 'Show' and 'Breeders' forum. We have a thread going on the 'Breeders' forum on 'Bile Acid Testing' and your expertise would be welcome there. |

I have heard this myself from a breeder and have friends who i've met and their breeder said the same thing!!! they pull one tiny bit of information from an article and use that against peoiple. Some are saying that herbs can cause LS. Only severe contamination can cause it and it would have to be a MAJOR assault on the liver that would make liver disease and liver shunts secondary to that so the liver toxic/disease would show up on biopsy, seen by surgeon, or trauma would show bruising. Some people will find anything they can to back up what they WANT to believe. Then they go to prospective buyers and discredit the poor souls who ended up with LS dogs and say "well he or she did this because look at what I read" and tell these people they dont' need to bile acid test because "I've never had this in my lines. This person did it to his own dog". And they do this despite what the surgeons and/or vets have concluded which many times is genetic conclusion. But I guess some breeders or people know more than vets and surgeons. Not all breeders are bad though. I've met some AWESOME breeders who have had LS or other problems and are completly honest, help the owner and dog as much as they can, and are just wonderful people.
