| I would not do both. The Biewers coming from Germany have the tattoo done inside the ear but guess what, all someone has to do is cut off the ear. The question you have to ask is who has the tattoo number and if a dog was in another city or state would a vet know to call your vet to document the tattoo? To see who the owner is. With micro-chips they go into a data base and if your dog is stolen, lost etc then you would report this to the company as many animal control and vets know to call these companies if a lost dog showed up. There would be an alert in the system for this dog. Nothing is full proof as only honest people will return your dog if lost.
