Micro-chip or tatoo or both? I am looking into getting Dusty micro-chipped, and tattooed. He wears his tags at all times and is never out of my sight, but anything can happen. If I tatoo him and someone dognaps him and tries to sell him my number would be visible to the buyer therefor they would know to call me. The micro chip would be get for vets and dog pounds. What is your opinion and what has worked best for ya'll? I need to get this done befor May because He is going on vacation with us. I'm thinking I should do both. |
Ellie doesn't have, nor will she ever get, either.:) |
Getting Zoey microed when I get her spayed. The tattoo not sure. |
Mine are microchiped |
The only thing about just doing the micro chip is that in our area there is not anyone who has the scanner so that wouldnt do any good in our little town, that would be good only if he was to get into another county somehow. |

I got Joey microchipped. I read that tattooing is painful, and not that difficult to disguise, you know, changing a 3 to an 8 etc. |
scarlett was tatoo'd by her breeder (we are her third owners) we have been wondering if we should micro her too, what do you all think |

I talked to someone who has hers tattooed and she said they do them when they clean their teeth so they wont be awake for it, said it only takes a few days to heal. I dont want him to be in any kind of pain, but I want to protect him everyway that I can. |
Angela is micro chipped. i think the tattoo process might be to much for her. |
I honestly don't know how tattooing would work. With a chip, any time the dog would go to the vet it would be scanned. There is a central agency with numbers and you would be notified, if someone has you dog. If you sell your dog you have to notify microchip company of the new owner. What would be the central register for tattooing? Someone could just say, oh that's my old phone number. If there's no central agency, it seems worthless. |
the tattoo In my area is generally just a mark to show that the female has been spayed. If she were to get out, is would be another identifying mark, but really in the rescue world so a female doesn't get put under for a spay when it has been done already. |
Please can I ask.....how big are these micro chips? I was going to get Tinkkerbell's done when we have her spayed at 6 mths. Do they put it in their neck? Thanks for any onfo. Lesley and Tink! |

The micro chip is the size of a grain of rice. It does go right into the base of their neck under the skin. Both of mine have a chip! |
I know they require them where I live. I fought off getting Teddy micro-chipped for a whole year. But after awhile, I knew he needed to registered and so I had to bite the bullet and get him microchipped. I figure its for the best. All the vets in my area use Home Again. So I think I'm okay! |
