Roxi loves the Merrick too, expensive but she's worth it! It's what the breeder had her on....

I had trouble getting my pup to eat any dry food. All she wanted was Natural Balance Rolls which is a good semi-moist food. Then I tried Artemis for puppies and she loves it. Finally, success with a dry food. I mix it with the Natural Balance.

Mine came to me on Holistic Health Extension but it had too many fillers, so i switched her to Wellness. She eats it but just grazes all day. I'd love for her to eat her food in one sitting. I was thinking of trying Nature's Variety Raw but i'm a little scared. Would i have to give her anything else with it i.e. vegetables, supplements, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I do!! dry out free feed,, and canned for breakfast some days,, not all,,,they are recently switched over to it and doing very well!

Me too - RC Yorkie specific. Agreed, it doesn't have a "Burger King" price tag (lol). My yorkie, Remy is 3 1/2 years old and fluxes between 3 and 3.5lbs. I free feed the kibble - she's a grazer

In the past I tried Wellness, Innova, Canadae, Nutro... She really does consistently the best on the Royal Canin. Her coat is shiny, teeth and gums healthy, skin very healthy - and she eats it. (lol)
One of the ways I evaluate how well a food performs is by her stool. On the RC it is low volume, firm, formed and consistent. She is not prone to any stomach upset or quirky inconsistent stool on this food.
I do give her home cooked *treats* to supplement. Scrambled eggs, chicken, beef, fish, and the occasional half can of crappy Cesar wet food, which she loves

Now- My Brittany, Max? I tried the Royal Canin for him. He hated it and I don't think he did well on it. I ended up back to Nutro for him.

So, I do believe it is a trial and error process.

One problem I do have with the RC Yorkie formula- my cats can't get enough of it and empty Remy's bowl frequently. It's like they binge on it - lol. It can't be good for them, but I don't know how to stop them.

So kibble "free feed" means just to put only dry in the bowl between meals?? will that help her to start eating more of the dry when I do mix it for her set meals??

yes ma'am,, free feed means just keeping dry food out all the time available to them,, Cricket was so tiny she had to have food out all the time,, shes a grazer,,

I hadn't tried that.. Thanks, maybe I should.. Although she is super tiny, 2lbs 8oz and still eats like a horse at every meal... think it's too much? but I guess she won't eat it if she's not hungry!! But I really do want to get her to start eating more of the dry, she has a tendency, as I was saying earlier, to eat "around" the dry food...

Me too - I have a grazer. I keep her bowl filled with the dry food all the time. Being so small I've always felt it was best to have the food available to her all the time.
I feed my Brittany twice a day - morning and dinner - measured amounts of the dry food and add the *yummy* stuff at dinner. Yorkie and Brittany eat dinner side by side - it's pretty weird to see - lol
I've encouraged this because she really had *food issues* when I got her. She, up until recently, used to grab a bite from the bowl, run away with it, scarf it down, look around and sneak back for another bite. It made me feel so bad! She was the runt and I think she was a little bullied by her littermates.
At 2lbs 8oz I wouldn't think it's too much. Having a snack she can rely on would help keep her blood glucose levels stable. That was my line of thought anyway.
As mine got older and learned to graze, I stopped being concerned about her having any hypo episodes and was able to cut out the nutrical.
Eating *around* the dry food - lol - yah - they can be picky little buggars!!
