Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Merricks Before Grain food.... Not sure if any of you Merrick's feeders have seen this new line. If you have and are using it what do you think of it? I picked up a sample on Saturday and gave it to Zoey. She damn near pushed me down to get to her bowl. She ate like a damn pig...never ever saw her attack her bowl like that. I thought she would blow up. She is a decent eater..not fussy and normally eats the Merricks' line. Now here is my question. I noticed that she also started drinking water that day like she was living out in the dessert. Kind of scared me. Do you think the protein content was too high and it made her thirsty or is it because the lack of grain (moisture) is what made her thirsty. She went potty normally just I found that she was very thirsty. For those that haven't used it yet..here is the link to the food. Tell me what you think. Merrick Pet Foods - Dry Dog Food

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | The protein isn't terribly high - sort of midrange. But, she may have needed more water to process it than for her previous kibble. Seems to have good meat content. Is it named "Before Grain Salmon" ? If so, that's kind of funny bc then they add in all kinds of meat - which is fine, but it's also nice to sometimes have a strictly fish kibble for many dogs who have issues w/ meat sensitivities. It looks pretty darn good - and has potatos instead of grains, has salmon oil, probiotics, joint support. Sometimes it's nice if they can avoid yeast and guar, but it's not the biggest deal.

Maybe just see how she does - she'll probably drink a little more overall, which should balance out her hydration, instead of drinking so much after the meal. Might help to feed her early in the evening too, in case she needs to drink more for digestion. One member - it was...RLC or was it TLC? Their baby couldn't handle the Orijen in the end bc of the excess drinking - but Orijen is, I think, 42% protein too.

| We received a free bag of the salmon variety. Bella seemed to like it a lot at first but now she isn't really into it. She seems to prefer Solid gold Wee Bits. |
