Help! She swallowed her bully stick

Yes, it can be if not corrected. This is something I have been working
on with Buddy for a very long time and he finally has given up and now
shares his special toys with me. Never allow your dog to growl at you because
it won't let you touch something it has. This can become a big problem
if not corrected. I do hope your little one will be fine.

Are bully sticks the same as beef tendon? If they are the same, I'm pretty sure that beef tendon is very easy to digest so it's probably ok. I'm no expert on this, but I can tell you that my Lulu gets a beef tendon every day and she always swallows about an inch to an inch and a half. If they were hard to digest, her stomach would be so full of them! She has never had any problems but I am often concerned that she could choke. I am trying to find a replacement treat that I don't have to worry about her choking and that lasts as long as the beef tendon. Any ideas?

This is why we don't do bully sticks very often. You have to watch so carefully to catch it when it gets that small (often sooner than you think). Then they are so possessive with it that sometimes it's hard to take away. I also don't allow that. But they sometimes need to be reminded that I own everything!

The only thing I can think of is a kong. Some people fill them and freeze them to make them last longer. Other treats that last as long as the tendons such as rawhide aren't safe.

The beef tendons are easy to digest when they are chewed into small pieces. I know you said she has never had any problems but it doesn't mean she won't at some time. These are tough treats meant to last. Anything hard and tough like that can cause a problem if swallowed in a chunk. They don't break down the same as when chewed.
I don't mean to harp on about it, I just don't want anything to happen to your Lulu.


Lori, I am so glad she is doing fine. You are right, they are just like toddlers sometimes. You never know what they are going to get into and can really make us worry. Thanks for the update.

Wow! Just ran across this one. I hope your little one is ok. Is it possible that she hid or lost the piece of bully stick and didn't swallow it after all? I certainly hope so.

Well, two days have gone by and no troubles. I hope that means all is okay. She is acting fine, eating, pooping, playing. I am still trying to figure out exactly what is best for her to chew on. She does love to chew.
