It isn't abnormal for the ALT to be in perfect range because it doesn't usually go up really high until the liver is 70% damaged.

I don't know why the first one was so high nor do I know why Ellie's was. It could have been the meds but 95 is too high to take chances. It could be anything having to do with liver function that would make it go up.

I am not going to say to stop testing if the next BAT is fine. If the reading was 10 or 20 points high then I might say that it was no big deal but with a reading of 95, I would always have it in the back of my head that there is a problem... That doesn't mean there is, it would just concern me.

Or you could just retest in two months and if the numbers are perfect, just watch for any weird symptoms...

I will def retest her in 2 mths or so. I think it is maybe best to take her off of the supps and retest. Not sure if the supps will have an effect on BAT.

What should I do w/rabies shot. She is about 9 mths and she still didnt finish all her pup shots nor rabies. The dr said lets do her vaccination now but I am still unsure. Any advise?

Liver shunt and MVD have been 99 percent ruled out, so it is different with her. She is back on Denosyl and will stay on it for awhile (maybe forever). She is on low to moderate protein food. We might check the bile acids again or maybe not...whatever I want to do since the vets don't feel she is in danger. If she went on Actigall (which is possible), her bile acids would no longer be measurable, so I don't know right now. Her liver could be doing this because of her pancreas (ultrasound showed pancreatitis). So I'm still deciding really.

I can't say whether she should be vaccinated but if you are going to, I would do it right away and wait two months to recheck BA. Make them give ONE vaccine at a time (DHPP might be okay though). The only ones I would consider giving a dog with a questionable liver are rabies and DHPP. How many rounds of pup shots did she have, at what age did she have them, and what ones did she have?

Oic.. If u dont mind me asking, how old is she now and when did u 1st do her BAT? Also how much does she weigh? Does she have any symptoms?

She weighs between 5 and 6 pounds.
She is 6 years old and that is when she was first tested...
She got a UTI and while the infection cleared up, she still pees where she shouldn't on occasion (on accident).
She has always been skinny but loves to eat.
She had a severe vaccine reaction just over a year ago.
I tested as a precaution.
The the internist did an ultrasound and her pancreas is inflamed. We don't know if it has anything to do with the high bile acids but I'm guessing no because she had had a day where she threw up tons (about a week before the ultrasound) which I think was pancreatiits. I don't think it has been going on the whole time the BA have been up, so they are probably unrelated.

Wut do u mean questionalbe liver?? U mean u might have 2nd thoughts if she might have LS? I believe she had 2 round of pup shots. The 1st one was done by the breeder/store. I have the rec at home. But the 2nd one was on Aug 18th 07. She had 6 in 1 (DH4LP+Parvo) also corona Bordetella, hook & roundworm dewomer. This was like a puppy package. She was about 12 wks. After that she was supp to get a booster but the vet said not to since she had a kennel cough.

O wow, sorry to hear that! Y is it that the vets dont have a firm answer to any of our questions?? I wonder that alot. This dr is saying he doesnt know y the test came out to normal cuz he thinks it shouldnt have been normal. He thought she might of had some issues w/her live cuz she had a Torb IV to calm her down when they were drawing ther blood and she didnt start to act normal til 7-8 hrs later. So he suspected she may have a liver issues. I wonder y the blood chem and the BAT came out to normal tho..??

Were all of those vaccines given right before or right after the first bile acid test?

What I meant was, if you dog has a liver that could possibly be compromised, I would only consider giving DHPP and rabies. I would not give any others because they are very hard on the liver.

Those were all given before the 1st BAT. After that no shots were given. U think that coulda been the reason? Also on top of those vaccines she was on clamavox, zithromax, and cough syrups (not all at once) but probably had all that in her system when 1st BA was done.

Yes that is what I am hoping for. Hope the shots and the meds just skewed up the BAT. And this one is the normal/good/accurate one!

I mean it is a possibility, right?
