| ![]() When I look at Betty from the side, her back end is definitely higher than her front end. It's as though her front legs are shorter than her back legs. Is that 'roach back' or something else??

| ![]() It can be a sign of illness. When they hurt somewhere especially in the hips they will pull their hips up forward and under them for relief. The arched back was one of the first symptoms I noticed when my Mylee was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. Once she had her surgery and her pain was relieved, her arched back went away and she's perfectly straight now.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() I hope that you found some pics It is quite common *unfortunately* in many dogs. If it is not an indicator of pain which it sometimes can be then the roach or hump or curved upward arch of their back is present all the time. Some dogs have it very mildly and some very noticeably. Uneven growth looks more like either the rear end is lifted up or their front end is. A roached back is more usually found in their mid back area. While a curve the other way - ie an inner curve or inward dip to their back is often found behind the shoulders. This is a structural fault (usually) unless your dog is very poorly exercised. But even structural faults can be eased with proper conditioning of their muscles.
