It can be a sign of illness. When they hurt somewhere especially in the hips they will pull their hips up forward and under them for relief. The arched back was one of the first symptoms I noticed when my Mylee was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. Once she had her surgery and her pain was relieved, her arched back went away and she's perfectly straight now.
