Isn't Prescription A/D a Science Diet food?? Did he say why he was changing her food? What about the blood in her stool...did they test for worms? I am just curious why he changed what she was eating. I am sure he has a reason. :confused: Just seems like she has already been through so much and a change in diet could also cause more bloody stools (just further upset her little tummy). Was she not doing well on the food that you already had her on? Sorry for all of the questions, I am just trying to figure out his thinking.

No, he did not really say, but he did say she is too young to be eating hard food, as he thinks she is younger than what I was told (12-weeks) The breeder I got her from said to continue feeding her Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul, because, that is what she fed her. My other Yorkie eats IAM and Natural Balance, I think that is what it is called. He thinks the mucous/blood could have been because I gave her some IAM the last few days, because she was not eating the Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul. The vet did do a test for parasites and found nothing, but did say bring her back in 2-weeks to make sure, because sometimes it does not show up right away.

Science Diet A/D is a food used after accidents and injuries for recovery. It is high calorie and used in vet hospitals because it is very palatable.

I would not put a dog on this food unless they were sick.
Other foods can be used to keep the sugar up.
If the vet thinks your dog needs a canned food, there are better choices.
I don't want to give medical advice though...

Was she shaking or seizing? Those would be signs of hypoglycemia.

She is very tiny. If she is really 12 weeks then she will probably be under 3 lbs grown. Did you get a health guarantee against liver shunt? Many puppies that have liver shunts also are also hypoglycemic. I highly recommend you take her to the vets and get a full blood panel done on her in about 4 weeks. If you did the blood panel now I think you would get false results since she just had her shots. I hope she will be okay. Please keep us posted.

Please tell me what kind of food would be better for her or both my yorkies. She was not shaking at all or having seizures. She could not stand up after I got her home from the vet after having the shots. She was limp, and weak. I put her down several times and she fell over. She could not stand up.

I do not think I got a guarantee against liver shunts. What symptoms do puppies have if they have liver shunts? She has to be younger than 12-weeks, because there is no way she will be that little. I pray she will be bigger! My gosh that is terrible! At how many months old do yorkies start getting longer hair around their eyebrows?

Didn't you get papers on her? Is she registered? Do you have pictures of her? We could tell more about her age that way. A 12 week old puppy should have a full mouth of teeth and they should be running around very active. The hair varies on all puppies depending on their bloodline. Some have a lot of hair at 12 weeks and some have thinner coats. As for the symptoms of liver shunt, the dogs start staggering and falling down because toxins build up in their bodies because the liver is not properly cleaning the blood. I just don't want to worry you unnecessarily but with her being so tiny it would be best to get her checked. Actually, I would recommend blood testing to anyone who gets a new puppy and if is hypoglycemic.

Yes,she is AKC registered and I have her papers, if that really means anything? :confused: I do not know. I will try to take a picture of her and post it shortly. I will check her teeth as well. Thank you

I did not answer your questions regarding the food. The food is not made by science diet, it says Hills
