Someone Please Help With Question
 
I CAME BACK FROM THE VET APPROX. 2-HOURS AGO. MY PUPPY GOT HER 12-WEEK OLD SHOTS AND HAS EAR INFECTION. SHE ALSO HAD SOME BLOOD/MUCOUS THIS MORNING IN STOOL. SHE CAME HOME FROM VET AND I PUT TRESADERM IN HER EARS AND SHE SEEMED VERY TIRED. SHE KEPT LYING AROUND, TOO ODD, SO I PICKED HER UP TO GO WEE-WEE AND SHE FELL OVER ON HER BACK. I PANICKED AND PICKED HER UP TO PUT HER BACK DOWN AND SHE FELL OVER AGAIN! I CALLED THE VET AND THEY TOLD ME TO GET HER THERE RIGHT AWAY. THEY TOLD ME TO LEAVE HER THERE AND CALL AT 3:00. I CALLED JUST NOW AT 2:00 pm AND THEY HAVE NO ANSWER AS TO HER PROBLEM. HE SAID POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS FROM SHOTS. I AM SO WORRIED, I AM LOSING MY MARBLES! HAS ANYONE HERE EXPERIENCED THIS? I AM SO SCARED SHE IS GOING TO DIE!

Also, Vet Tested For Parasites And Found None, Although Said To Bring Her Back In 2-weeks To Check Again.

What shots did she get? I have a friend that had that happen to her puppies after they were vaccinated but they had been given the lepto shot. She said they were staggering around. It could also be hypoglycemia. Did they check her stoop for coccidia? I hope she will be okay. Please keep us updated.

It is a side effect to the vaccine.

My Yorkie collapsed and went into shock when she got a certain vaccine...
It is a good thing you got her there because it is VERY serious if left untreated.
How is she doing?

What shot was given? Lepto?

Suzan I hope your babay is ok. It sounds like it may be a vaccine reaction. Do you know if there was lepto in the vaccine? SOmetimes Yorkies have been known to react badly to it. The Tresaderm wouldn't effect her like that. The best place for her is at the vet so they can monitor here. I wish I had more to offer you. I would ask them to retest her stool to look for coccidia. That is an internal parasite that causes mucosy bloody stool and sometimes the eggs are hard to find when they are testing. It is easily treated. Please keep us posted. Sending prayers your way....

I AM LOOKING AT THE VET STATEMENT. SHE HAD THESE SHOTS BORDETELLA, DHLP/PARVO/CORONA. DO YOU THINK SHE WILL DIE FROM THIS? I AM SO UPSET

The L stands for Lepto....the vet should be able to give her something to counter the reaction I would think....

I wonder why the vet vaccinated at all with blood in the stool?:confused:

If all goes the same as it did with Ellie, they will give her one or two injections of something (benadryl and azium in Ellie's case) and she should be back to just about normal right away. I got to take Ellie back home within 20 or 30 minutes.

No, she should be fine because you got her there.

Please never let them even think about giving her the lepto again (this was probably Ellie's problem).
Corona is also unnecessary and causes reactions.
And only do one vaccine per visit (the combo shot DHPP is the exceptiont).
Since she is taking vaccine so hard I wouldn't do bordatella anymore personally ( the vet will have to agree to that though).
Also, have them premedicate with benadryl 15 before any vaccine is given since this happened. If her gums were pale, she was most likely in shock.

I would also ask if the vet gave her the full 1cc of the vaccine. My vet only gives 1/2cc because my baby is small. The vaccines are set at a 1cc standard for all dogs so a 100lb Lab gets 1cc...

Should yorkies not have lepto shot? Can this make her die if he does not catch it in time? I do not know why he gave her shots with blood in her stool either.

The lepto shots they should never give to these yorkies..I hope your baby will be okay, and am glad you got her back to the vets asap....sending prayers your way..she'll be back home and as good as new before you know it...try not to worry(as hard as I know it is)..

If lepto is a minimal concern in your area then it absolutely should not be given. It is a huge concern here, so some vets give it...

They should have her out of the crisis in less than 15 minutes...I would want to know if she is okay now...not at 3.


For all I know though since I didn't see it, maybe the vaccine just made her dizzy and she wanted to lay...

Holding good thoughts for your baby!!! please keep us posted here!!! and my girls dont get Lepto,, yet the groomer i tried to take them to demanded it at that animal hospital,, so,,we came home and will just learn to groom here,, so much i've read on the Lepto vaccine was scary to me,, I wish you only the best!:aimeeyork :aimeeyork

I did not check her gums. I picked her up from the vet and she was fine as could be when I got there. The vet blamed her problem on hypoglycemia (sp), I have had her for a few weeks now and never had an attack. The breeder as well said she never had a hypoglycemia episode either. I told the vet that I was told that the L shot causes reactions in yorkies and he denied it. He said my puppy is younger than what I was told by the breeder and my puppy was having a hypoglycemia attack. I do not know, but VERY grateful nothing happened to her.

Hi there. Glad your baby is okay. Read your thread. Maybe you want to be careful the next time your puppy gets another vaccination or go to another vet that will discuss the possibility of it really being the vaccine over with you.

That is so good to hear.
Now that it is over I will say (I know you asked before but I didn't want to scare you) that any vaccine can kill any animal. The lepto vaccine in particular has killed several Yorkies.

I am glad that she is feeling better! I am surprised that your vet denied that the Lepto is a problem for Yorkies. :confused: When my breeder sent Livi to us, she specificially said, "NO LEPTO!" She even wrote what she would need (shot-wise) and also wrote, no Lepto on the paper. I took this with me to give to our vet and as she read it, she even said, "I NEVER give Lepto to a Yorkie puppy".

I am just happy to hear that your puppy is better. :)

My puppy is going to get her shots Tuesday. Should she not have Lepto. What is it for anyway? Now I am really scared.

I am glad your baby is ok. You must have been a mess. I know I would have been.

Thank you for not scaring me, because had you told me she could die, I would have dropped to the floor! I was already hysterical to say the least. I am thanking God she is ok ans so glad I found this website. I know it was the shot and he did not want to tell me so. The minute I called the vet and told them her symptoms they said bring her in right away. And I know they treated her with something because she was COMPLETELY back to normal.

Thank you and I will NEVER give her that shot again. That episode grew me a few new gray hairs! :)

Did you get charged for this treatment?
If you got charged then whatever they used should be on your receipt.
If you didn't get charged then they are (by default) saying it was their fault...

It depends how bad it is in your part of the country.
Leptosporosis is a bacteria that effects the liver, kidneys and heart. It can be transferred to humans (but just because the dog gets the vaccine doesn't mean they can't give it to you). There are so many strains of it. In most places it is by far not necessary. You can type "lepto" into the search.

Just curious about the vets statement about her age. Did you get her from a local breeder or was she shipped in. About how much does she weigh? There was a breeder here in Texas that was selling very young pups and passing them off as older. She would tell people the pup is 1 lbs at 12 weeks but the pups were more like 4 or 5 weeks old (they did not even have teeth yet), the lady also lied to people about them having papers. Sad, sad, sad.

Yes, I was charged $35.00 on top of the $165.00 for her shots, ear, and stomach medicine. On the statement it does not specifie what meds were given, but does say medicine-4, whatever that means. He gave me a can of puppy food called Prescription Diet A/D and told me to feed her a teaspoon every hour.
