| Conner's Liver Test Wish us luck. Conner goes to the vet tomorrow at 3:40 p.m. to have his liver checked. He has been on pills for a month, since he went in for surgery. The vet did not do the LP surgery since his liver level was "slightly" elevated. He was not concerned but wanted to retest in a month. Well, tomorrow's it. I'll let you know when we get the results.

| Conner's numbers were worse than before. One test is supposed to be 100 or below - last time he was 116 - this time 136. His other test was 36 before and was 64 this time. He has to go back Thursday for more testing. I'll update after the test. He seems fine. We would not even know of his elevated liver levels if it were not for the fact that he was having LP surgery.

| I'm sorry. I know this is miserable. The 136 is probably the ALT and the 64 is probably the bile acids? What testing is your vet doing? Please proceed carefully. Some tests for liver compromised dogs are less accurate than others which means you would be wasting money...

| Which tests will they be doing on Thursday? Was the 136 post meal and 64 pre meal for the bile acid test?

| Thank you for asking. Conner went to the vet and had a blood test. Then we came home, and I had to feed him bacon (the vet said he wanted to see how his liver functioned). Then back to the vet an hour later for another blood test. The vet said he has decreased liver function, but it is something that would never have been recognized if he wern't going to have surgery. He is now on liver pills again and also Hills l/d prescription dry dog food (he loves it). After he finishes the pills (approximately 2 months), we go for another liver test. We found this out because Conner was going to have LP surgery.

| Wow, BACON? I'm glad that didn't give him pancreatitis. Don't they use canned A/D? If the bile acids are high, does he have a shunt or MVD?

| We got the canned l/d. Conner ate it twice and then turned his nose up at it. He is used to getting dry food and a little shredded skinless, boneless baked chicken breast. He loves the dry food. He likes it better than the Wellness he was eating. The vet wants to test him after 2 months. He does not think there is a problem. He thinks that Conner just has a significant problem. He will let me know when we go back if Conner needs to be on this food for life. I was really nervous about the bacon, but the vet said that he could see how the liver worked. Conner was fine. He has a hardy constitution!!
