Hair Loss & Color of Toe Nails My sweet Tasha is going to be 10 years old on March 17. I noticed her hair on her back thinning a bit. I was concerned as her hair was always on the thicker side so I took her to the vet. The vet said her allergies that she gets in the Spring and Fall must have come back when we had some unusually warm days for Illinois before the cold weather. Was prescribed medication and hair is coming in again. I could see her skin between her fur. Now I see that some of her toenails are black and some so light that they are almost blonde in color. She is acting fine and eating well. Has anyone ever noticed this in their Yorkie----thinning hair and color of toe nails? Should I take her back to the vet or am I just being overly concerned? Any comments would be appreciated. Hugs, Elaine

Welcome to YT!! I would take her to the vet and get an expert opinion. Good luck with everything and I hope she's doing well.

Hair loss and thinning hair is a symptom of thyroid problems. Since you took her to the vet and you say her hair is coming back in I feel the vet was probably correct. As far as the toenails, I am not sure. Some dogs just have white toenails but if your dogs nail were black and then turned white it could mean something else. I just looked at my 12 year old girls nails and they are all black. I know in people, if you see white spots on your finger nails it is an indication of a zinc deficiency.
