hi there guys,
i was just wondering if anybody knows what the average menstrual cycle is for a yorkie. i've been trying to find books on breeding and looking on the internet, but i just can't seem to find any information on the menstrual cycles of the yorkie. any help would be awesome. thanks guys

Females are usually in heat for 21 days. The first 9 days they are bleeding then the bleeding turns to a lighter color. The female is most receptive days 9 through 19.

You're very welcome..this was my old vets website and there is so much informative information on there..I loved him as a vet, but, he made one comment one time to me that was unprofessional, so, changed vets..but, I still use his website all the time

yeah, that's really an awesome site. lots and lots of information. i just have one question that i didn't seem to find the answer for on that site, don't know if i just missed the info or what, but about how long after a female has pups does she come into heat again? or does it vary for every dog?

if she usually goes in to heat every 6 mos. and say she was in heat in july and had pups in sept. then she will go in to heat(if she goes every 6 mos) in jan..4 mos after the pups are born...

oh ok, i don't know how often she goes into heat, but the lady i got her from has a puppy off her which she delivered 5 weeks ago. she weaned her way to early in my book... so if she comes into heat every 6 months, she should come back into heat in april?

Approximately 3 weeks.

Week 1 - Known as coming in (swealling)
Week 2 - Known as showing color
Week 3 - Known as going out (breeding at this time is done any time from)

Heat Cycles average around 6 - 8 months.. First heat cycle may not happen until as late as 16 months of age.

First time breeding on any female shouldn't be done until 18 months of age or 2nd 8 cycle.

I'VE BEEN WONDERING THE SAME THING. I HAVE A LITTLE GIRL - SHE'S 1. SHE WENT INTO HER FIRST HEAT @ 8MONTHS OLD. FROM WHAT I'VE READ, IT'S SUPPOSE TO BE EVERY 6 MONTHS. TRY THIS WEBSITE: WWW.DEBBIEJENSEN.COM I FOUND IT TO BE HELPFUL.
