| I would not breed a girl under 5 pounds (and for sure under about 4 1/2). If I were to breed I would do bile acid tests on both, along with LP xrays and possibly hips also. The bloodlines should be checked for these things and they should be clear of collapsing trachea. Does she come from a line of free whelpers?

| You also have to know what lines both your Yorkies came from to make sure there aren't larger dogs back in their lines. That's why it is so important to only get dogs you intend to breed from reputable breeders who know what it is their lines way back many generations. Breeding two dogs from unknown backgrounds is a crap shoot and can be very dangerous, even deadly. Did you read the thread that was posted about the member who just spent $2,200 on an emergency c-section? C-sections are pretty common in toy breeds like Yorkies. I'm not sure what your reasons for wanting to have one litter are, but it is very expensive to have the recommended health testing done on both dogs before breeding. They should both have their knees xrayed to be cleared for luxating patellas, bile acids tests done to clear them for liver disease, a thyroid panel done and an eye exam. Combine that with the cost of prenatal care and possibly a c-section, that one litter gets pretty expensive considering Yorkies can often have only one or two puppies. |

| yes, that is right but please don't breed her unless she reaches five pounds and i don't think she is going to. there are many other things to be considered as well. |

which would be 2 1/2 lbs. or one of the big scales that only weighs in tenths? That makes a difference, as if it's one of the big scales, then she would be closer to 3 lbs..

| You have to remember, there are some dogs that even at 7 lbs aren't big enough to breed..it depends a lot on how they're built.. I know a lady that just about lost their 10 or 11 lb pekingese when she was giving birth..to me, it's just not worth it..if I lost one of my babies because of breeding, it would devastate me.. |

Did you get bloodwork and/or a bile acids test done on her before bringing her home? What does your vet say about the fact that she's not gaining?
