| Is it to soon to have my yorkie neutered? My vet told me it is to soon to neuter my yorkie. He wants to wait until he is at lease 7 pounds. He is 5 months and weights 4 pounds. He already started lifting his leg, and started "taking advantage" of his teddy bear. Just woundering if any one else has been told the same thing. |

| Taking advantage of his teddy bear? I LOVE IT!! LOL!! My Codies does the exact same thing to his teddy bear! I don't think his size is a grat concern. I had my Katie spayed when she weighed only 2 lbs. Just make sure the vet use isoflourane (hope I spelled that right). And make sure the vet - not the VET TECH - works on your dog.

| No, it's not too soon. A good vet should take all the proper precautions for a teeny baby and most Yorkies never even get to 7lbs so you could be waiting forever! Ask to have him neutered at latest 6months.

| Nope, not too soon at all. Age wise, pups can be fixed at 8 weeks old. Size wise, 7lbs is bigger than some yorkies ever get. |

| I got hefner at 12 weeks ad he was already neutered. Now, I wouldn't recommend that but I think 6-7 months is the best age because you want to make sure if he has retained any baby teeth you can have those pulled at the same time to avoid anesthesia twice. I would take a tour of your vets operating room and make sure it is state of the art and that they have two people working on him, one to do the surgery and one to monitor his vitals and the anesthesia. Preferably two vets (it will cost more but is worth it) but a vet and an experienced tech would be okay. Some vets try to cut costs by doing it all themselves. Not on my baby!!! |

| Starsky is 5 1/2 months and has been lifting his leg since we got him at 8 weeks. He also has taken advantage of his teddy and his pillow. He weighs aroung 6 1/2 pounds now. I will probably get him fixed in September when the finaces are there. I hope it's okay to wait until then. The vet said to wait until he his at least 6 months old.

| Get a different Vet. Most vets should know that many yorkies do not reach 7 pounds. I can see him wanting to wait to see if any teeth will have to be pulled, but other than that he sounds inexperienced with small dogs. Your puppy is humping his bear for dominance - NOT for sex. My two boys are neuter, and were neutered at 4 months and 6 months and they both still hump their pillows. And their adult weights are 5 and 3 pounds. |

| Alley neutered at 6 months I had Alley neutered at 6 months. I'm glad I did because he had two baby teeth that needed some help getting out and they were able to take care of that too. I did it on a Friday over Easter weekend and he was up and playing around by Sunday night. He also loves his "funky dunky" pillow too! At least it's that and not everything or everyone else!!!
