| Hair Loss?? Im pretty sure Yorkies aren't suposed to shed, but it seems as if Ranger is missing hair off his hind legs. They aren't bald because there's thin silky hair there, but the black puppy coat is gone. He hasn't had a hair cut since the week before Christmas and it was there then, so I don't know where the hair has gone!! Is this weird or is it just me???? Ranger at 5 months (just to show what they looked like before): http://www.yorkietalk.com/gallery/data/500/224ger2.jpg Ranger at Christmas (you can see it has thinned out a bit): http://www.yorkietalk.com/gallery/data/500/224dec.jpg Ranger Today (all the dark hair is gone): http://www.yorkietalk.com/gallery/data/500/224jan.jpg

| That is kinda weird. Does he itch the area or does it seem like it irritates him at all?? I'd check with a vet too probably. |

| He has never seemed irritated by it at all, that's why I didn't think it was anything serious. But when you look at the pictures it just doesn't look right. We will definitly be making a vet appt tomorrow to find out what's going on with poor Ranger.

| i found this online Seasonal flank alopecia in Boxer This condition usually is seasonal and occurs in some dogs during the colder months and other dogs during the warmer months. It should clear up at least part of the year. There is hairloss on the flanks and the skin does get darker. We have seen this condition in a couple of boxers in our practice. The usual recommendation is not to treat this condition the first time it occurs because sometimes it doesn't come back. If it does come back the next time the season that is associated with it rolls around, then it might be worth trying melatonin. The references to using melatonin recommend an injectable version of melatonin and I have no idea if oral melatonin would work as well, or at all. The other thing to consider is other hormonal disease. Hyperadrenocortism is a fairly common cause of hairloss and increased skin pigmentation and there are other hormonal disorders that can cause similar signs. It seems reasonable to me to try to rule out this condition prior to looking for one that is more rare. Your vet may have already done this or may have good reason not to consider hyperadrenocorticism but it would be worth asking about it. most of the hairloss things ive looked up seem to check their thyroid first ...... Hope this helps |

| It's weird b/c there is hair there, its silver and very thin and silky. Here's a close up: http://www.yorkietalk.com/gallery/data/500/224hair.jpg And come to think of it the past few weeks have been our coldest, and lately Ranger has been rolling around a lot in the leaves. It could have something to do with the weather/season, but hopefully the vet can figure something out!!
