| Is there a difference between fish and salmon oil? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Well, many, if not most, "fish oils" that I run across are salmon oils. I give Eicosaderm (fish oil) bc it also contains the necessary vitamin E for the dog to process the fish oils.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | We put extra fatty acids on our dogs food to help with coat growth and texture...the brand we use does contain salmon oil but is "mercury free" which I think really helps with the digestion of the oil. We have not had any problems with our dogs tummies and they have been on it for several months now. And we have defintely seen improvement with their coats. We bought it at Petco and we defintely love it.

| They have to have vit. e to digest fish oil? This nutrition stuff is a full time job.

Yep, their body uses vit E to process fish oil - so the Eicosaderm is pretty darn convenient. (Lara2913 taught me about the vit E)

| This would be a good idea for Ellie but I'm sure when we go to the specialist they will put her on 400 IU of vitamin E again, so adding this would overdose. Since we are going back to vit. e anyway, I guess I can just use regular fish oil. Sort of off topic but it is really surprising me lately that I see soooo many recipes online for homemade dog food and I'm not convinced the creator of the recipe knows a thing about dog nutrition.

| I think a lot of people on here use Emu Oil too - instead of the salmon oil. You can use Emu Oil on their hair (after a bath) and/or put it in their food. I am not certain how much, etc.....but I am sure someone on here can let you know. (I think Cindy -chattiesmom- uses it a lot). This might be a better alternative to the Salmon Oil??

| I have started giving mine salmon oil recently, they have been on it for a couple of weeks now and have been doing great on it. You use it daily and it comes with a pump that you just pump onto their food. They love the taste and smell. Here are some benefits of the salmon oil: • Cardiovascular Health • Support of Brain Function • Improved Immunity Against Infection • Beautiful & Lustrous Sheen to Coats • Improvement in Inflammatory Conditions • Increased Bone Strength • Improved Growth & Development • Improvement of Dandruff & Dry, Patchy Skin • Readily Available EFA’S • Increased Joint Mobility • Lowering of Cholesterol You can read more about it here: http://www.k9power.com/wholistic_salmon_oil.php
