I had to drop Chloe off at the vet this morning for her spaying. Ever since I left her shaking at the counter I have felt sick. I know she will probably be fine, but I keep imaging her stuck back in some kennel upset and shaking. It makes me so upset that I had to drop her off at 7:30 in the morning and by 11:00, when I called with a question, they hadn't even seen her yet. Why does she have to be "tortured" all day? Sorry for the rant......I just had to get it out. Wish me luck with the aftermath!

i know how you feel! i had a family dog growing up who had many problems (she was a rescue) she was the most timid little girl ever and everytime we pulled into the vet's drivway, she knew and started to shake uncontralably i remember crying everythime we took wher in...and those eyes like "why are you leaving me here again? what did i do??" broke my heart every time! but then when we would come pick her up, no matter how drugged up she was she would be sooo happy to see us! and the next day would be like it never happened! your baby will be fine and forget all about this with lots of kisses from you when she comes back!!

I know it's hard, but it's a fact of life that sometimes you will have to leave them with people who are 'strangers' to them - vets, groomers, dog sitters, etc. I had this problem with taking Spike to the groomers - he still shakes a little but he is much more used to it now, and it's something he has to do - he needs to have a bath, and his hair and nails cut in order to be healthy. I trust my groomers - the staff are friendly and they are very open to letting you watch the whole process. I've also had to go away a couple of times, and each time I've left him with friends I trust completely to take excellent care of him, but let's face it, it's not the people he's used to, so naturally he's a little anxious. I find that the less of a fuss I make, the easier it is for him. I simply hand him over and leave, which may sound callous, but it's a lot easier for him than if I make a big fuss as I go. Don't feel guilty - you are leaving your pup in the best care possible, and know that ultimately you are doing what is best for your dog by keeping them happy and healthy. The fact that they keep her for most of the day is part of that - most vets want to make sure there are no adverse reactions as they come out of the anethesia, or that there are no immediate post-operative problems!

Well it's been about 24 hours since I picked Chloe up from the vet. She seems to be doing really well, and sleeping a lot. They put her on some pain meds with an anti-inflamatory (spelling?) which I think is helping her recovery. So, the two of us have just been laying around all day....NICE! Chloe's biggest annoyance is her e collar. They recommened keeping it on for 3-10 days. Let's hope it's 3. I'm so scared she's going to try jumping up on the furniture and ripping out her stiches. Thanks to everyone for your support. I was a stressed out wreck!!!
