I know it's hard, but it's a fact of life that sometimes you will have to leave them with people who are 'strangers' to them - vets, groomers, dog sitters, etc.
I had this problem with taking Spike to the groomers - he still shakes a little but he is much more used to it now, and it's something he has to do - he needs to have a bath, and his hair and nails cut in order to be healthy. I trust my groomers - the staff are friendly and they are very open to letting you watch the whole process.
I've also had to go away a couple of times, and each time I've left him with friends I trust completely to take excellent care of him, but let's face it, it's not the people he's used to, so naturally he's a little anxious.
I find that the less of a fuss I make, the easier it is for him. I simply hand him over and leave, which may sound callous, but it's a lot easier for him than if I make a big fuss as I go.
Don't feel guilty - you are leaving your pup in the best care possible, and know that ultimately you are doing what is best for your dog by keeping them happy and healthy. The fact that they keep her for most of the day is part of that - most vets want to make sure there are no adverse reactions as they come out of the anethesia, or that there are no immediate post-operative problems! |
