| Both my dogs have had this vaccine. According to my vet, the lepto is pretty common in North Fort Worth where I live. Neither one of them had any problems when they got the vaccine. |

| In rural Michigan, it is neccessary as well and all my dogs receive it...without incident. I think you have to find a vet you trust and then follow their advice.

| That is so true to trust your vet, he watched reagan for 10-15 minutes after having the shot to make sure she had no reaction. What convinced me for her to get it was when he said- if she has a reaction we can handle it & get it under control if she catches lepto it's fatal. So my baby got the vaccine, in our area appar. lepto is real bad. |

| Just an update. I didn't do the Lepto. After thinking and thinking I've decided to pass on this shot. My baby is too small, and I do not want to risk it, unless it's required or necessary. Thanks for your replies! |

With the internet there is no reason people cannot review the AAHA recommendations for vaccinations and have an intelligent discussion with their vet. I have seen vets in California give shots for diseases that are only on the East coast. http://www.aahanet.org/PublicDocumen...s06Revised.pdf

| Our breeder cautioned against the lepto shot and our vet agreed. In fact, he said they had stopped giving lepto shots to any dogs . Can't remember the reason, but we did not want to do anything that could harm our yorkies. We live in Texas. |

| Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | From what I have read, Leptospirosis vaccine is an UNnecessary danger to toy breeds. I left a vet I'd had for 10years, because she was not informed about the dangers of administering lepto to puppies and toy breeds. The vet I now have is the one who educated me further about the risks of lepto and the vaccine. There are several strains of Leptospirosis, and there's no guarantee that the vaccine one's dog receives will even protect it from the strain s/he may come into contact. Basic precautions (don't allow your pet to drink from standing water, or behind other dogs) is the best preventative. Yes, it's becoming widely accepted that most vaccines are more about the $$$, than about our pets. I only give what the law requires: rabies every 3 years. I intend to ask for titers, before subjecting mine to anymore.
