| Prone to ear infections? Are some yorkies just prone to ear infection? Or is is just hard to completely get rid of one? I think I may not have put the medicine on chloe for as long as I should have when she got an ear infection a couple weeks ago becuase it is back. And I dont give her a lot of bath- about once a week. I also try to soak up any water that may have gone into her ears with q-tips. But she started scratching her ears and crying again. And she has broken off a patch of her hair that is in the topknot while trying to scratch her ear . I have medicine and I started giving it to her again. Do you think she is prone to them, or we just havent completely gotten rid of the first one. My boxer has one too ! I have never had a dog with an ear infecton until last month and now 2!

| Have you been cleaning the ears with alcohol and cotton after the bath, and making sure not to get water in the ears..also have you been plucking the hair??...My vet warned me that these will all lead to ear infections and I assume it is easier to get one once you've just had one...does that make sense?

| ears A Yorkie with chronic ear infections needs to be addressed weekly. I had a female who had such a bad time the first 2 yrs of her life. I cleared it up with Flowers of Sulphur..cheap and bought from the druggist..they can order if they do not carry it. Excellent product for the flop earred breeds like Labs and cockers.. Put the powder in a plastic bottle..the type you use to dye hair. Lightly dust the inside..do not clog the ear with powder, just puff it a couple times...Horse breeders use this produce alot. It will keep the ears dry and prevent yeast infections.etc..best wishes |

| I have a maltese that is prone to ear infections. The structure of her ear makes the hole very narrow. To keep up on her ears, I was advised by the vet to put the ear cleaning solution in her ears weekly. It also dries up the ear so I do it after a bath. I try to keep cotton in her ears during a bath as well. My vet also told me it can be due to the climate changes as well. Just as with a child, they must have the full length of treatment. Do not discontinue the medicine just because she starts to feel better. |

| Thanks Yorkierose for the advice. And yes I clean the ears after baths but not with alcohol. Is that defiently safe? I am kinda scared to do that. And I am not sure if she is definetly prone to ear infections. I am really hoping we didnt quite get rid of the first one and once I actually finish the medicine this time, hopefully she wont have anymore. SHe hasnt had her ear hair plucked in 3 weeks. Do I need to have it done again?

| I've never heard of alcohol , but my vet told me that you can make a solution of water, vinegar and a drop of tea tree oil and just give a quick wipe once a week. (a little more water than vinegar) apparently this will keep the ears nice and clean. |
