I have a maltese that is prone to ear infections. The structure of her ear makes the hole very narrow. To keep up on her ears, I was advised by the vet to put the ear cleaning solution in her ears weekly. It also dries up the ear so I do it after a bath. I try to keep cotton in her ears during a bath as well. My vet also told me it can be due to the climate changes as well. Just as with a child, they must have the full length of treatment. Do not discontinue the medicine just because she starts to feel better.
