| Need advice on female yorkie.......... Ok, I'm really confused with one of our yorkies. She went into heat about 2 months ago, but we did NOT breed her. It was her first heat and she wasn't quite a year old. Anyways, I noticed this weekend that her nipples seemed swelled, and so I got nosey and squeezed one of them (I know, strange), but I can express milk. Keep in mind that we did NOT breed her. So, I'm soooooo confused on why she would have milk. Her belly is not swelled, which I would think would be signs of pregnancy. Any advice??? Thanks!!! |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Could just be left over hormones or a false pregnancy. In a false pregnancy, they will exhibit all the signs of a pregnant yorkie but they lack the pups. Check with your vet on this to be 100% sure.

| I have heard that female Yorkies can go through what is known as "false pregnancies". They have swollen teats and can even go into a "nesting" mode as if they are expecting a litter. It's quite odd. Schatzie is over a year and has yet to go through her first heat cycle. I've taken her to the vet and he has confirmed twice that she has not been in heat. Strange deal.

| Donīt worry about when youīre sure you didnīt breed her. Itīs only a false pregnancy. Experts say that every bitch who had the heat also gets such a pregnancy, but the difference is you can see it at some of them and the others donīt show it. I made the experience that it is often worse after the first heat. If she really got milk go to the vet and ask him for a natural product against it. In Germany itīs called "Oestrovetsan", but I donīt know if itīs the same in the US. This product stops the production of milk. You can also put some towels which you put into cold water before aroud the nipples and you should go for a walk with her several times a day. And donīt forget to hide all her toys, because she will start to care for them as if they are her puppies. |

| Nina is 8 months now and she went in heat when she was only 6 months old. I also thought she was pregnant because of the same changes you have observed in your yorkie.

This happened to my chihuahua in april and her nipple swelling went away after about a month and she is fine. It was so weird.
