Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | HELP - Bloody stools?!?!?! Hi guys, I just do not know what to do. Friday evening Georgia started having runny stools. About her third time going to the bathroom I noticed there was blood in it. Friday, my boyfriend put a sandwich and doritos on the nightstand...and Georgia stole some doritos....SO I was thinking this could have caused this but it's MONDAY and she is still having blood in her stool. I took her to the Emergency Vet on Saturday and they gave her some fluids and they gave her some pepcid and antibiotics for me to give her at home. Now I called them back and asked if I was going to have to pay for another office visit because I don't feel that I should have to considering what they did before did not help at all. Anyway, the receptionist said I would. So I am just going to go to her regular vet and not waste anymore money at the new vet. So we go to the vet today...but it's not her doctor...cus he is not working.... any advice or suggestions or similar situations???? |

| Piper had the same thing. I thought he was going to bleed out and I started giving him Pepto Bismol, and chicken & rice, and it stopped in a day.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Pepto Bismal How much pepto bismal? So its not like she is going to die? Its just a very sensitive stomach to Doritos? I mean I took her to the vet, and she said that it was probably indegestion from doritos and gave me the medicine. I am just panicky cus it has not stopped and it looks a little slimey and bloody...Sorry.... |

| Pixie has had tummy probs too but i have never seen blood in it though. Twice after eating something unsavoury in the garden or out walking she has ended up with runny poo's that has each time lasted for almost a week! First time i took her to my vet and she took her temp which was normal and gave me Panacur wormer and after two days she was normal again. I know it couldn't have been anything i had given her as she was on her usual diet of Royal canin, scrambled eggs and chicken breast, i'm just presuming its the nasty things like Rabbit Poo and cat poo etc that she keeps chomping on everytime we are out walking! I try to watch her every second but once she's got her mouth round something she's very reluctant to give it up without a fight!

| What colour was the blood? If it was red then thats good because it means it is recent, probably from either a bacteria overgrowth, colitis or something scratching her on the way out. If the blood was brown or black then that is old blood and is not good at all, good be indicative of internal bleeding. Good luck at the vet, hope its not serious and that your baby is better soon. |

| Bloody diarrhea means that either the blood is coming from within the intestinal tract (ex. bacterial infection), from the stomach (ex. ulcer), or from the anal sphincter. First determine if your dog has any cuts or abrasions on the butt, which may cause the bleeding as she passes stools by. Then determine the color of the stool accompany the blood - dark or black means from the stomach (already digested blood), bright red is usually from the intestinal tract. Place the dog on NPO - (nothing by mouth) except for liquids. These dogs are prone to develop dehydration easily so keep glucose or pedialite solution (which contains glucose and electrolytes) near by. I would even recommend giving you dog pedialite every 1hour about 2-3 cc by mouth. You can put the solution into a syringe ( without the needle) or a dropper. Try this for at least two days, along with the antibiotics that you vet gave. if the problem was bacterial then the antibiotics will help and giving no food will help by giving rest to the bowels. she should be fine within a few days. ALso, make sure you dog did not ingest something that could be causing the bleeding. Hope this helps |

| I forgot to mention that you can pick up Pedialyte (Pediatric Electrolyte) from any Walgreens, CVS, or Rite Aid stores. Even if you don't use it this time its always good to keep around for emergencies. |

| Turbo was having the same thing. I called my vet and he told me that (at least in our area) the sudden change in weather was the culprit. Even though they are inside dogs, it can still effect them.
