I would say, as Marcel is doing so well at the moment, try him with one, i'll be interested to see how he does. I think I would say a wing first, as he's so small and the bones in wings are really thin, they don't take alot of power to crush.

I boiled an egg to make chicken salad last night and part of the egg shell fell on the floor. I decided to see if Rylie and Lacy would eat a piece. Lacy spit hers right out and Rylie chewed his for a second and spit it back out. LOL

No, I don't think Marcel is too small. Abigail was gnawing drumstick bones - not the little drummetts, mind you - when she was 9weeks old/2.2 lbs. I did hold it for her, and she put the hurt on that chicken leg! lol

MO, I would cut the meat up for him into manageable pieces, rather than going back to pre-made that sometimes has ingredients he might be allergice to (carbs, grains). Curious - forgive if I've asked this before; but, who told you he's allergic to chicken? A vet that probably has "issues" with RAW? And, yes, beef can be too strong for some to start out on.

Neither of mine like the feel of egg shell, either. I can't even crush it up and hide it in a raw egg. They just lick around it!

I think I'll let him gnaw on it a bit longer next time, but this time he sort of just gave up and walked away (but he loved gnawing on Wylie's leftover bone). I kind of have to stick to the pre-made for awhile bc I have 4 bags, lol! I was just adding the RMBs for dental (for now, that is).

His nutritionist (who loves that we're going raw, she was thrilled) and I narrowed it down to chicken. Looooong story, and LOTS of previous posts about Marcel - he had giardia twice at age 4/5mths old, then had continuous mushy/mucousy/bloody stools, it was hell for him and us. I was homecooking at that point, chicken was the main protein. The stools went on like this for 3-4 mths (and TONS of vet visits/tests) when I finally contacted a nutritionist, bc the vet could think of nothing more to do. I already knew that giardia can actually damage the intestinal tissue, and the other thing we (and the vet) suspected was ibs or an allergy to chicken. The nutritionist immed. had me put him on a hypoallergenic diet of whitefish/steamed and pureed green beans/mashed potatoes - and 1.5 DAYS later we had firm stools, it was UNREAL. I cannot speak highly enough of this woman, she saved my Marcel Verdel Purcell!

So, that's the history w/ chicken. She finds in her practice that chicken, far and above, is the most highly allergenic meat to dogs. Of course, that was cooked chicken - so raw may be different.

My Malachi was on raw from 10 weeks, he could manage all chicken ones straight away but it was a few weeks before he was crushing lamb bones, though he liked a good knaw on them. He never even had any problems with his bones during teething!

All of my gang will eat the egg but just discard the shell.|I give them the shell and they look at me like 'You expect me to eat THAT'!

I have a ?.....Do they need the skin left on the chicken ? ....

I was going to fix a whole chicken on the grill and I got to thinking....hhhmmmm, I wonder if they'll eat this wing, so I cut them off and offered it to one of them , he grabbed it and took off with it as if it was gold, the other one wanted nothing to do with it.....I was watching the one eating the wing and he was acting as if he was gagging but I could clearly see the wing , I went to take it away to see what was wrong and a long piece of skin came out, it was gong down his throat.....I wondered if this was something that is a concern when eating chicken ....I was waiting for him to poo and he did and NO runs, yay....

I leave the skin on, because they do need some skin and fat as part of their balanced raw diet.

Next time- hold it. With very enthusiastic eaters holding it at first means you can teach them to have to crunch it all properly and prevent them from pulling off bits that are too big or doing silly things like wanting to swallow all the skin at once

Thats great that one of your boys loved it and had no runny poo as a result, fantastic!

So, I noticed Chloe's poop is different color when dry....they turn white? Is this normal? When she was on Canidae, her poop color just turn dark brown when dry.

completely normal and one of the best parts of feeding raw. the poops turn white and blow away within a few hours. i do not pick up poop in my backyard any more because it just goes back into the ground.

Yes, perfectly "normal". You'll also notice it falls apart or turns to powder when picked up. MUCH prefer biodegradable RAW fed poop, than nonbiodegradable kibble poo.

....if you find Chloe is pooping hard, white stools (not white after it sits awhile - but, right out of the source) this may indicate a bit too much bone. Just add more meat/less bone to her diet.

Educate yourself and buy from reputable breeders or rescue.
