Raw Diet - Info Needed

I do really want to go for the real RAW diet..but not sure what to get for Chloe? How much should I feed her? How to make sure she get all the nutrition she need? Okay...my confession...I don't even have time to cook for myself! So, how do I prepare RAW meal for Chloe

Well I am going today and buy some of the medallions to start Delilah on the raw. And my MAIN reason is not only for the nutritional aspect but mostly for the dental benefit! So my plan is to feed the medallions in the morning as I get ready for work and her evening meal will consist of the "sure nuff" raw. I admit the medallions are for my convenience and plus until I learn more about proper ratio I would feel better knowing she is probably getting everything she needs from the medallions...plus some. I do hope to finally become as experience as some of you fine folks here and do away with the pre-made as the closest place to get it is a 2 hour drive!

It amazed me that you are going to drive for 2 hours to get NV!! What a great mommy you are!! Just make sure you use the coupon!!

Okay..but how much do I give it to her? She is b/w 6 to 6.5 lbs. If I prepare meal for her, then do I need to get supplement?

Also, from my own experience this morning..just make sure you cut the medallions into smaller pieces! Chloe basically just swallow the whole thing without chewing it! So, I dobut she gets much dental benefit!

Thanks for the heads up! Delilah is so picky I am hoping she will want to gobble it up too! She is a 2 pounder so I am always worried about her choking! I think she may have the collapsing trachea that so many of them have. She can just scratch under her neck and hack.

I actually found a store that carries Nature's Variety and Primal raw food close to my house, yippie!!!! So I can pick the food up in person and not have to order it on-line (and pay that extra shipping expense -- raw food seems to be pretty pricey to ship because they have to ensure that it stays fresh and cold).

I'm going to my butcher tonight after work to buy some ground beef and some ground buffalo (maybe even some ground pork if I can get a good sale). I would really prefer to buy my own meat rather than buy pre-packaged meat but I will mix both for right now to help me get started.

PS - What does feeding "prey-model" mean?

Question about Nature's Variety. We "think" Codie is allergic to chicken and maybe turkey (that's what my vet suggested) but we are not 100% sure. Right now his allergies are so severe that he licks his poor little paws raw. So I want to avoid those meats until his allergies are under control and then slowly re-introduce them raw because he may not be allergic to them in their natural, raw form.

Ok so here's my question. Nature's Variety has chicken eggs in some of their raw products. Would that effect Codie if he truly is allergice to chicken? Should I just stick to Primal right now? Nature's Variety seems to have a lot more options meat wise.

Also, what about duck or quali meat? If Codie is allergic to chicken/turkey, will be also be allergic to duck and quail and any type of bird meat?

What do you experts think? I know it's all trial and error but I just feel so bad for him. He hurts to even cut his nails right now because his paws are so raw.

I notice Chloe been licking or "biting" her little paws lately....I thought she might be just "cleaning" herself like cat does? Oh man...my poor baby, she might be allegric to something and her mommy doesn't even know that!

Marcel has issues w/ chicken. His nutritionist suggested we start him on NV's venison only for now. I'm happy to report that he is doing GREAT on the venison, even w/ the eggs in the ingredients. He is currently on freeze dried, I'll be trying raw medallions this weekend.

SO, even if there are meat allergies to chicken - they may be okay w/ the eggs, as Marcel is.

Qs....

Chloe will be staying at a Pet Hotel next week for couple days. I wonder if I should give kibble (Candiae) and ask them to feed her kibble or should I buy some freeze dried NV? How does freeze dried work? Is it a lot of work to feed her freeze dried? I just worry those pet hotel people won't care for her as much as I do...do you guys think I should ask them to feed her kibble or I could go for the freeze dried?

the raw chicken eggs like not effect him at all. Others who have allergy pups feed all different kinds of NV raw with no ill effects. NV does have more options. I'd avoid the chicken for now and try beef, venison, or lamb. duck and quail, while birds, and different then chickens and turkey. That's like saying if he's allergic to beef, he would be allergic to deer and buffalo seeing as they are all Ungulates (hoofed animals). Start with one protein and slowly add new ones every few weeks since his allergies are so bad. i'm sure he'll start feeling better soon once he's on the raw

chewing the paws can be allergies, it could be cleaning, or it could be done out of boredom or habit. if its allergies they are usually itchy somewhere else as well. allergies can come from anything so its hard to pin point.
