I do really want to go for the real RAW diet..but not sure what to get for Chloe? How much should I feed her? How to make sure she get all the nutrition she need? Okay...my confession...I don't even have time to cook for myself! So, how do I prepare RAW meal for Chloe  |

Well I am going today and buy some of the medallions to start Delilah on the raw. And my MAIN reason is not only for the nutritional aspect but mostly for the dental benefit! So my plan is to feed the medallions in the morning as I get ready for work and her evening meal will consist of the "sure nuff" raw. I admit the medallions are for my convenience and plus until I learn more about proper ratio I would feel better knowing she is probably getting everything she needs from the medallions...plus some. I do hope to finally become as experience as some of you fine folks here and do away with the pre-made as the closest place to get it is a 2 hour drive! |

It amazed me that you are going to drive for 2 hours to get NV!! What a great mommy you are!! Just make sure you use the coupon!! ;) |

Thanks for the heads up! Delilah is so picky I am hoping she will want to gobble it up too! She is a 2 pounder so I am always worried about her choking! I think she may have the collapsing trachea that so many of them have. She can just scratch under her neck and hack.:( |
I actually found a store that carries Nature's Variety and Primal raw food close to my house, yippie!!!! So I can pick the food up in person and not have to order it on-line (and pay that extra shipping expense -- raw food seems to be pretty pricey to ship because they have to ensure that it stays fresh and cold). I'm going to my butcher tonight after work to buy some ground beef and some ground buffalo (maybe even some ground pork if I can get a good sale). I would really prefer to buy my own meat rather than buy pre-packaged meat but I will mix both for right now to help me get started. PS - What does feeding "prey-model" mean? |
Question about Nature's Variety. We "think" Codie is allergic to chicken and maybe turkey (that's what my vet suggested) but we are not 100% sure. Right now his allergies are so severe that he licks his poor little paws raw. :( :( So I want to avoid those meats until his allergies are under control and then slowly re-introduce them raw because he may not be allergic to them in their natural, raw form. Ok so here's my question. Nature's Variety has chicken eggs in some of their raw products. Would that effect Codie if he truly is allergice to chicken? Should I just stick to Primal right now? Nature's Variety seems to have a lot more options meat wise. Also, what about duck or quali meat? If Codie is allergic to chicken/turkey, will be also be allergic to duck and quail and any type of bird meat? What do you experts think? I know it's all trial and error but I just feel so bad for him. He hurts to even cut his nails right now because his paws are so raw. :( |

Okay, I am not an expert on RAW..but I do have a Qs...if our furbaby constantly licking their paws...is that mean they are allergic to something? I notice Chloe been licking or "biting" her little paws lately....I thought she might be just "cleaning" herself like cat does? Oh man...my poor baby, she might be allegric to something and her mommy doesn't even know that! |

SO, even if there are meat allergies to chicken - they may be okay w/ the eggs, as Marcel is. |
Qs.... Chloe will be staying at a Pet Hotel next week for couple days. I wonder if I should give kibble (Candiae) and ask them to feed her kibble or should I buy some freeze dried NV? How does freeze dried work? Is it a lot of work to feed her freeze dried? I just worry those pet hotel people won't care for her as much as I do...do you guys think I should ask them to feed her kibble or I could go for the freeze dried? Thanks! |

Okay no venison bones, but maybe we will have just one deer for the dogs! I thought okay I have chicken legs and quarters I thawed for supper maybe I will try it with two females that I did not tuck in their kennel for an afternoon nap. I was too chicken to give them the bones(but I will) but cut all the meat off well I deboned it so it was in big chunks and gave it to two of them. MY dogs are evidentally starving they kinda scarffed but not too bad one chewed better than the other ,but now they are frantic running around looking for more sniffing all over. Also how many times do you give the capsules of fish oil or salmon ,once a week daily etc. I thought those recipes were funny just chunks of raw meat but different varieties.I was waiting for ingrediants and the only one was raw meat. |

I generally give the salmon oil and vitamin e every other day because the capsules I buy are more like a 2 day dose. If you had smaller capsules or were using it loose (like from a bottle) then you could give a small dose every day. Hehe, thats because thats all they really need (raw meat, bones and organs) :) |

So, for those who feed their furbabies freeze dried NV, how does it work? Just feed them like it is kibble? I just don't want to be too complicated for the pet hotel people or worry they might not know how to feed RAW! |

Is this a sign of allergy? I thought she just being a dog! How much is too often? I might need to go see a vet! I didn't think it would be allergy? I was going to take her to a vet in Dec when the yearly check up is due. Do you guys think I need to bring her in earlier now? |
TJ licks his paws until they are soaking wet. He also bites his nails into daggers. TJ was on Raw for about 6 months. He continued to lick and bite his paws. I do not think TJ has allergies though... TJ has OCD problems and that's why he licks and bites. Not all 'paw lickers' are allergy related ;) |
Thank you so much Lara would that be in a 250mg capsule the E and oil every other day? If they can chew these bones with no problems this is a piece of cake, and easier than dog food having to refill for I feed free choice.WIll be easier to keep my neuterd male from being heavy also. What about pups I have a 6 month old female anything extra she needs being she is a growing puppy. And one of those that I read said bones are only needed 2 times a week is that correct? SO then 5 days out of seven would just be chunks of meat. Then fresh veggies and fruit for treats and snacks? |
So then Brett and the boys should be keeping the deer hearts and livers if not shot up correct? Any others ? |

The only thing different your puppy needs is a higher quantity of food for her body weight. Raw meaty bones need to be fed every day or every other day for them to get enough calcium, but remember that the bones you feed should be ones that are completely consumable, such as poultry, lamb or rabbit bones, not just chewed. You can feed fruit and veg for treats if you like, they are not necessary though. |
