| "For all stages of life" dog food? I bought some canned Solid Gold dog food, but all they had was one marked "for all stages of life." I'm assuming this means the food is suitable for puppies. Do you think this is OK? They don't have the puppy canned food. |

| For the food to have an "all life stages" label, it has to meet the requirements for puppies. It seems like a lot of the premium brands have "all life stages" foods instead of adult, puppy, etc.

| The companies that have tapped into 'all life stages' foods are very clever indeed. You see, in all honesty the whole puppy, adult and senior foods are a bit of a gimmick, the main difference between the 3 is the protein however there is a bigger variance in the protein between different brands of commercial food than there is between the different life stages versions in the same brand. Puppies do not need a different diet to adult dogs, they simply need a higher quantity of food for their body weight. So in essence canidae for example realise this and by marketing their food as all life stages they are making money out of the obvious, of course they have to market it as being different to other foods otherwise we woulden't believe them as we have been sucked into the idea of different foods for different life stages.

| Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance is another premium dog food that advertises it is for "all stages," puppy and adult! I do not have puppies but I do know the dogs like the Duck and Potato and I have recently added the Nature's Variety Praire to their diet. And I always add cooked meats to their kibbles as well.
