Stedman got his first cut when he was exactly 5 months old. He still (of course) had all of the super duper THICK black puppy coat and the reason I got it cut is because it was just getting out of hand. His hair has always grown really fast - so at 5 months old, I said - that's it! Time for your first trim Steddy!

I guess I should mention that I WAS NOT happy when they groomed him (I took him to Petsmart - how DUMB of me

) and they cut him, way, way, WAY too short for my liking. He looked like a Schnauzer

I was sooo shocked and upset when I saw him for the first time. I took him in black, and he came out silver

That part was fine, but his hair was just WAY too short.

Of course though, it grew back out - and indeed, very nice

Anyway, I vowed from that day forward that I would start grooming him myself, and I have been doing so ever since

How long did it take for his hair to grow back? I am in the same situation (PetCo), and I am not very happy!

I had to get Lucy's puppy coat shaved when she was about 4 months because she had too many mats, here is a picture of her before, after and then about 3 weeks after I think. her black is gone and she's silver but she's much more comfortable, thats' for sure.

I have been reading this thread. Thanks to all your posts- I am going to go for it...I am going to go to Target and get the grooming kit mentioned above. I figure if I mess up too bad I can always take them to the groomers for repairs? And it will grow out...

They are both really good about bathing and brushing out. Thank you so very much Barbara(my breeder)....She worked with them lots and they are great now....

I can hardly wait to try my hand at grooming....Thanks Again...
