| To Blow Dry or not... Hello all, I take Lucy to the full day groomers once a months but want to start bathing her every week in between. Question is, do I need to blow dry her or can she just dry naturally? Is it less harsh on the hair to blow dry less?

| Blow dry every bath. Yorkies are prone to Black Ear/Yorkie Crud, even in the summer when it is humid. I use the setting on air dry.

| During the summer months, I take Squeaky outside and comb him dry. In the winter, I hook up a small heater in my bathroom and sit about 3 - 4 feet away and comb him dry. He doesn't like the blow dryer - he'll let me do it but he doesn't have a problem letting me know he doesn't like it. |

I blow dry, but by the time I get done brushing, they are pretty dry. They like to go outside and roll and it would defeat the purpose of a bath if I didn't blowdry. | |

| As long as it's not real cold in your house I'd let her air dry. I'm sure it's a lot better on her hair. Just like people.

| blow dry I blow dry after every bath. (on medium first, then low setting) Its a great way to get out all the tangles. I dont like to leave the dogs damp as its not good for the skin and causes more tangles. A stand dryer and a grooming table are well worth the money!!!!!!! Lynn |

| It is a problem that plagues yorkies in humid and cold weather. It mostly affects silk coated yorkies. Keeping the skin clean and dry and applying Lotrimin 2% usually is the best way to clear it up. It affects ears, nose and extremities.....black and crusty. Go to Vassarsquare.com there is information on it. As a groomer, exhibitor and breeder I highly recommend completely drying your puppy after every bath to prevent the problem. There has been a couple of threads on this subject. It's affects are not pretty, black skin and coat lost. And when the coat comes back it isn't pretty. Never comb a wet coat and never brush a dry coat.

| I let them dry naturally, they hate the blow dryer, even on the cool setting. Never had any problems. |

| I blow dry both of mine after each bath. I'm very careful to not get the blow dryer real close. Both of mine love it! To make it easier, I shut the bathroom door. My bathroom is small. I just follow them when they move! You'll know if its too hot on them, as they will hide behind the toilet! |

| We take a weekly bath and blow dry each time. Nomi has a soft coat and mats if I let her air dry. Plus I like the blow dried look. Could be wrong, however I don't figure that blow drying once a week would be harsh. Make sure to condition well.
