| I think the issue here was not whether or not people should have access to that information. Of course people should have knowledge. The only problem is that some people might not realize the dangers possibly involved with doing this procedures themselves. I believe the other posters were trying to warn OTHERS not to try this at home unless they put a LOT of thought into it first. If I were to just view that video with no prior knowledge, I might think that expressing anal glands is something you need to do on a regular basis. That is misinformation. We all want to educate, but we don't want to misinform and there is a very fine line between the two sometimes.

| Hello Judy: Quote:
My view point is that if an individual say's, you should not do this or that, then you are obliged to say why. Sweetr72's husband is a good example, of what can happen, if you have the knowledge and the initiative. I have read so many threads, where others have asked a question, only to receive a blank answer or no answer at all. Misinformation, I saw nothing about misinformation, while reviewing the video with an experienced groomer, with over ten years of experience. I have reviewed other videos and decided not to post them, because I felt that they lacked information. At the end of the day, I believe that I was justified at posting the video, and I will continue to post information that I believe might be useful for others. At times I find certain part of this forum, to be stringent, to what one should say, I am not an American, nor do live in America, so I find it just impossible to allow somone to revoke someone's decision or willingness to share information. | Forgive me, I don't know what all the hoo-ha is over anal glands. I appreciate the link b/c it's got a lot of what I perceive to be, helpful information on dog grooming, which I don't know too much about. Also, I believe that my vet told me that the anal glands would usually take care of themselves, and if not, that the groomers usually took care of it, or I could bring him in and they'd (the vet's)do it. I think it's always a good thing to know how to do almost anything for our pets that we can, even if we aren't experts at it just in case. I have never had the need to express my dog's anal glands, but I know once, he'd just gotten back from the groomer's and they hadn't done it (I wouldn't have known what the problm was) but Max was walking a little funny and the tooth cleaning lady was at my neighbor's cleaning her dog's teeth~ she'd just come from my groomer's and said "what's wrong with Max's right leg, he's walking funny" and she took a look at him and said "oh, I think his anal glands need to be cleaned" and pronto, she did it right there lickity split and he was fine. I wouldn't do it myself, unless I had to, but I live in CA, and I'm a little weirded out about the "BIG ONE" (earthquake) and I just want to know how to do as much for ourselves as I can in case it becomes necessary. I'm not trying to be argumentative either, but since Max has been on the diet he's been on for over a year now, I doubt that they ever need to express his anal glands at all anymore. I'm sure that his eliminations do a good job of it.

I think the experiences of others are useful. If someone posts about a procedure and others have differing experiences, I want to hear all sides and decide for myself.

| I just wanted to thankyou for this helpful video on anal glands. Thankfully my vet told me to drop Jack off and she would take care of it when needed....at no charge for that matter..... She's a wonderful doctor. Jack and I are lucky to have her. Lisa, I loved Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam...Great era for dance music. Last edited by kat1york; 07-22-2007 at 08:25 PM. |
