How to express the anal gland on your dog

PLease don't express the anal glands unless it's really a major problem, otherwise once you do it, you will need to keep doing it regularly.

Yorkiedaze is right about the anal glands. Thank you for the reminder.

However, I would like to thank you for that link! I have been looking everywhere for good dog grooming videos and that series is very informative. I noticed some other dog-related videos there too that I want to check out.

I was searching for something else on the net, and came across the video, I thought it would be nice to provide individuals with the knowledge, which they have been looking for.

Not to discredit you concerning your statement, but maybe you could elaborate your reasoning behind your statement.

This way the reader can have a wider understanding. Are you a professional Vet?

My vet said exactly this last week when I had Lucy in. He also advised me to "not try this at home". He said if I encountered a problem to drop by and he'd look at her for me with no charge. I respect my vet so I'm going with his recommendation.

BTW - I'm not knocking your post at all, just participating in the discussion :)

As I previously mentioned, I found this video to be interesting for those individuals who have been searching for this information, I was looking for something else.

Not to take away from your support, but I truly believe in self-help. If you review the video, it indicates, that the groomer has many years of experience. I find that on this particular board, there are many intelligent women and men, who find that they can provide for their pet(s) welfare.

Now, the fact that Yorkiedaze, has been kind enough to express her opinion about this, would send a red flag, to those individuals who might be willing to do it on their own. At the same time, I am sure there are those individuals, who may totally ignore Yorkiedaze advice.

Knowledge is everything.

Thanks for posting that site, it has some really helpful grooming info.

As for the anal glands.......I will just leave that up to the vet, if need be.

My vet said not to do this unless there is a problem. The glands will take care of themselves. He said that if you do it once, it has to be done all the time. The video is useful if you have to express the glands, but don't start doing this if not required.

My husband expressed Reece's glands about 2 months ago when he was "scooting" around on the carpet...since then we havent had to do it since...no more scooting either...its very simple to do and less messy when giving a bath..

I'm thinking this bit of sarcasm is uncalled for. If you have a vet that you trust you should heed his advise, they are the professionals after all. The video is here for those who care to learn the procedure but us caution when deciding whether to perform any new procedure on your beloved yorkie.

Not at all, I read it in the Enquirer news. I will explain myself for the third time, I did not post the video for myself, I posted the video for OTHERS who would like to take the initiative to care for the welfare of their pets.

Forgive me if I have missed something here, but this is a public site, and as long as I obey the rules of the administrator, I do belive that I am entitled to share information, which I believe is important to others.

At the same time, I would be the first to agree, that anyone can make statement, based on their opinions and beliefs.

I am taken aback, when individuals post information or share information, you have others come out and say that this or that particular method should not be preformed.

I find this type of response to be wrong, If an adult individual wants to take his/her pets welfare into their own hands, then others should respect their choices.

A good example would be the crazy article which I read on an American site, that indicated that by microchipping your dog(s) was a reason for the government to keep track of the owners. I chuckled with amusement....just another example of American society, dictating to their citizens, on what they can do, or should not do.

Whatever happened to free will? Because of free will, I own a yorkie, whose gene pool has been altered by some individual who decided they wanted a smaller version of the original Yorkshire Terrier. It is a very good thing, that a slender man, with a black top hat, did not inform that individual, that he/she could not create such excellent breed of a dog.
