| Help! He has no hair. I took Jack to the groomer yesterday and when I picked him up he was BALD. She told me it was because he was too tangled. I had just brushed him the night before. I feel so bad for him and like I am a horrible mommy. I just wish the groomer would have called me before she did it. It is still cold here in Germany. I have to keep him wrapped up so he doesn't freeze. We definatley won't be going outside anytime soon or back to the groomer. Does anyone have any idea on how long it will take for his hair to grow back? I want my furry Jack back!! |

| I really don't know how long it takes for their hair to grow back but wanted to say I'm sorry that this groomer did this to your baby. I would have been very upset too. Did you pay for it? |

| Sorry to hear the bad news......you hear more and more of it all the time. Two groomers have done this to my baby already. So I bought a dvd and started grooming my own dog. You can do it the way you want and you know they are well taken care of......I always wonder how they treat the dogs. Even heard a few months ago of dogs being killed by groomers. Could you imagine getting that call. Go buy yourself some clippers and scissors and do it yourself. There is a lady on ebay who sells dvds....just look up yorkie grooming. She grooms 4 different yorkies 4 different ways.....She is good and shows you everything. Save your self 30-40.00 every 2 months..... God Bless............. |

| Jewels was full of matts one time and My groomer got them all out. She charged me extra but she got them out. They dont have too shave them down. I think they do that out of laziness

| This has happened with Bailey a few times, last time the groomer said she was really matted...she was not, she had one matt under her front leg that I couldn't get out (my son washed her and didn't brush her out) I let them know and she said no big deal...I went to pick Bailey up (it was January) and they had shaved her, her hair is starting to grow back. The good thing about a bad haircut is that it is not permanent. In the meantime put sweaters and tee-shirts on your (cold) little guy!

Anyway, my point is that while groomers can often brush out somewhat matted dogs, sometimes there is a point where it is in the best interests of the dog to just accept that you need to start over. Also, all groomers are not created equal. The big PetSomething places tend to be more about quantity so they will rarely spend any time dematting. It's a corporate thing. Often the corp. groomers are not even allowed to spend time brushing it out if it would be quicker to shave it. I have noticed that if you hang around a corp. grooming salon most of the dogs come out just short all over with no style whatsoever. So be careful of who you ask to groom your pet. Also some advice...get a metal grooming comb and after you brush your dog run a comb thru it to make sure you are getting it completely brushed out. A comb will find knots that the brush misses. Sorry for the rant...haven't had my coffee yet this morning. Be glad you chose to be yorky owners instead of of maltese...now those little babies really do matt up horribly. In yorkies we have silky coated dogs that don't matt easily and cotton coated ones that do matt easily. Maltese are all pretty much cotton coated and very thin skinned so dematting is almost impossible!
