![]() I have a question for those experienced in wrapping coats. I would like to have all opinions, pro and con -- 1) If a dog has dry brittle hair will conditioning and wrapping help or hurt? 2) How often do you take the hair down and rewrap? 3) Have any of you who wrap used silk wraps? I ask this one 'cause if I come to a positive conclusion about wrapping my kids, I am going to invest the time and effort into making some reusable silk wraps.

![]() I am old school...if a coat is dry and brittle...find out why? Wrapping would not be an answer IMO...wrappers can rub against the skin, hair and cause breakage on a brittle coat... the bands should be tight, but not too tight. I have used silk and just about anything you can find...years ago I used those old diaper liners from Sears. Deli wrap, tissue paper, you name it...but I find rice paper great and plastic for the body. I like the wraps I got from Lanie. I have redone wraps on a daily basis...removing, spritzing and brushing hair, rewrapping with clean wraps...I got a floor length coat at 10 months and full facial furnishing..that paid off as the dog won 10 AKC shows in a row...and finished. I have let the wraps go for 3 to 4 days..but doesn't work best for me...I perfer no more then every other day with a daily check AM/PM...and I changed the face once a day. I only wrapped Kate's for about 2 months and it grew so fast..now Emee has undone that work....LOL I think it depends on the coat and activity level of the dog..best wishes

![]() Pat, I genuinly appreciate your input. I can't really figure out why my Chattie has a dry coat. She is fed a premium dog food, gets cold pressed fish oil, and Missing Link. I am sure that I am missing something important, but I am much too close to the problem. Her coat grows well, and is nice and shiny and healthy looking until it gets about 3/4 of the way down to the floor and then it gets dry and brittle. I try not to bathe too often, and use Coat Handlers Shampoo when I do.....

![]() In that case, I would try wrapping...it sounds like only the ends are dry. Snip the dry ends, dab the healthy ends with the Coat Handlers conditioner and leave in..it is water based and will not harm the hair..and wrap. Works like a deep conditioning...don't use plastic..use something the breathes..check it. If the hair was dry/ brittle near the body that would be different...good luck Last edited by YorkieRose; 06-24-2006 at 07:12 AM.
