| Katy ~ Home Grooming Katy will be 5 months old in 3 days. She is now 4.8 pounds of HEALTHY, HAPPY, HUNTRESS, Yorkie! HER TONGUE DOSE NOT HANG OUT LIKE THIS PHOTO SHOWS, I am holding a treat for her to get the shot..... I used to 'groom' my own Cocker Spaniels, so I am learning to Groom Katy. As you can see (feet and ears and Top Knot) I have a waaaays to go. But, am learning. She IS really good, I mean, REALLY GOOD, about her feet and toenails being groomed. I am very pleased about that. Yes. It sure did take little by little training, but, BOY!, it has sure paid off! https://dogstarkennel.com/menagerie/...2020-02-02.jpg |

| She looks good. You got the hardest parts down! So you’re not planning on keeping her in full coat?

Right now, I just want to keep her ears and feet trimmed. I think it looks nicer. Coat? She's a baby. Time will tell. Her fur seems to be hair. We shall see. If she has the cotton coat (would I know that by 5 months old?) I will probably keep her trimmed short. And thanks for the kind words. I about held my breath as the scissors started. LOL | |

| Top Knots????? OK, I get that the dogs need to get used to wearing them. I do. But doesn't that hair need to 'breathe', so that it can grow in thicker and longer? Rather than being in a Pony Tail ALL the time?? How do you guys get that NICE THICK hair (yes, I know genetics) to grow so well? |

| My guy is in a top knot 24/7, if he wasn't that long hair would hanging over covering his eyes. Top knots do not smother the scalp causing it not to breathe. When I put his top knot it, after its banded I use a rat tail comb (do they even still call it that lol) put it under the band and move it away from the scalp to eliminate the oriental eye appearance lol, in other words loosen up the top knot. A yorkie does not need "thick" hair for a nice top knot. Top knot hair should be grown starting between the eyes above the bridge of the nose this eliminates lose hair getting into their eyes. Hair taken from the back of their heads is used in top knots to give it a fuller, thick looking top knot. Look at some utube videos to get a better understanding of how a top knot is made up. BTW Cody's hair is not banded everyday while at home, I band and use bows when we go out and about, at home I use small claws or baby or young girls barrettes to keep his hair out of his eyes. CVS and Riteaid have a nice selection of small barrettes, scrunchies and claws. When Miss Katy gets use to something on her heard you can go online and buy fancy clip on bows to cover up latex bands. One of our members mimimomo has a online store with beautiful hair clips. Here is the link if you are interested. www.toplinepet.com

Thank you for taking the time to write all this up! I really appreciate it. The Rat Tail Comb???? Why Did I NOT think of that! I have been using my fingers as best I can to loosen the look, and loosen the SURPRISED look eyes! Ha Ha I asked about the daily pony tail, because of people hair. That is, how it pulls the hair follicles that direction, how it pulls hair out, how it can bald after years of the same daily. So Thank You. I was a bit worried. Katy has been wearing Barrettes, tucked up between the front of her pony tail and head. She's really pretty good about it all. (better than I would have thought) Not a great photo. But this is how she has been wearing it, barrettes, as you said, when going out.....and the other day...... LOL .....I had that danged thing, with barrette PERFECT for a change.....and by the time we got there, she had rolled her head around and..... well?, you know!
