Any One Else needs to get Psyched before they do the summer cut? 1 Attachment(s) It's that time of year again and I have to get myself ready to give Deuce his summer cut. I love his long coat but I know he needs to get rid of it for the summer so he can enjoy himself. It just takes me so long to get psyched to do it. I did a little face trim so far |
Yes! The part that's really killing me is the rest of the puppy black is going to get cut off :( |
Nope. I now cut ZoE all year long, so am used to it. I never thought I'd ever have a yorkie not in full coat. I love love love a long coat! Unfortunately, Zo's hair, while silky, it so slow growing and just looks stringy long. I never thought I'd like it short, but I really do, and it's so much easier in the summer when she wants to jump in and out of her little pool, any sunny day she can. |

I do too as I love the look of a long coat. I cut Evie's hair about a month ago, her hair used to reach the floor. Just cut it about halfway from what it was, I couldn't get myself to cut it shorter. Deuce is a handsome boy. I like the look on his face :) |
Tibbe's hair grows so thick and so fast, I can barely keep up with it and it seems like I'm always giving him a summer cut - every 4 - 6 weeks - just to keep him from turning into another Adams' family Cousin Itt. And he loves his haircuts - seems to feel his hair is shorter after a good cut and he acts like he really enjoys losing all that long hair - just frolics and wallows all around after his barbering. However you cut little Deuce, he's going to look wonderful. Still, can't blame you for hating to cut into a perfect look you love. |

Deuce is looking adorable. I keep my boys in full coat, but I started keeping Teddy's beard shorter like Deuce's in the photo. Teddy looks cuter with a short beard. I can't decide on Max's beard. He has so much hair and the last time I cut his beard, it made his head look huge. I did cut his topknot by half because it was getting too heavy. |

It's barely been hot here and Lola is panting (not constant) and sleeping on her rubber mat. Her hair is an inch above the floor and I've cut her belly as short as I can. I've had a stomach bug or I would have cut it already. |

We had to turn on the a/c in the house because the pollen is so thick here in our woodsy area, we wouldn't be able to open the windows anyway. The boys are comfy even with the thermostat at 78 -- I don't like the house too cold with the a/c, and neither does Teddy. We take our walks early in the morning and evening. Even if I cut the boys coats short, there is no way we could take long walks mid-day when the temps hit high 80s or hotter with lots of humidity. |
I guess the main issue for Lola is my air conditioner, it's fine downstairs but upstairs (our room) is at least 10 degrees hotter. Also, as soon as we go outside she gets way too hot. |
Katie can not handle the heat. She has such a gorgeous coat of thick, silky hair, but it's too hot for her in full coat. I hate cutting her hair, but she still looks both adorable and pretty with a shorter cut. Instead of always trying to find the coolest place to sleep, she cuddles close to us with the shorter hair. Deuce looks gorgeous in both his summer and winter cuts. |

Deuce is adorable! I have recently had Teddy cut and I'm always so conflicted. On the one hand, due to his coat type (COTTON), I know a short coat is much better for him especially since the weather is getting warmer. On the other hand, he never looks like my little man in a really short cut! So, yeah, I completely understand where you're coming from! Quote:
Teddy has had the exact same cut which my groomer refers to as the 'Asian fusion'. However, he doesn't look as cute as your Joey! Teddy looks more like an emaciated coyote..lol! Ah well, it grows back, right? Bonus: it takes literally 5 minutes to wash and blow dry him! Much better than the 45+ when he's in full coat! |

I can't believe how much Lola grew between her first and second birthdays, her clothes from last year are too short and some are too tight. |

I feel conflicted because short beards are soooo cute, but I also love Max's long beard. I may try short on him again. Maybe I didn't go short enough and that is why he looked like he had a basketball head, lol. |

I like cutting his hair. He is so good with the clippers. He just stands there. I was surprised bc he hates the vacuum. |

Yes. I use the grinder on Toto. Remember I got one for Uni years ago? She hated it and I think I returned it. Well when I started fostering Toto, he came with a TON of stuff and one thing was a nail grinder. He didn't mind me trimming his nails with a clipper, but once we had an accident. I sit on the (closed) toilet and flip him on his back. But once I nicked his quick, he squirmed and screamed and fell out of my lap and landed on his head on the tile floor. So after that I used the grinder and he's totally fine with it. I have to do his nails quite often bc he has the dew claw, and also both pinky nails/toes on his front paws are deformed. They set back, like they are missing a joint so those never touch the ground just like a dew claw. Uni hates getting her nails cut so I guess the good thing about her pulling on her leash is she files her own nails. I never have to cut them and they are only about 1/4"-3/16" long. |
1 Attachment(s) Thanks all. Here is a pic of Teddy, today, 2 weeks after his summer cut. I don't know about it all..... His next groom is June 29 and I'm not sure if I will ask for his legs to be cut closer to the body or not? I don't like the skinny leg look, either, but I've yet to find a good balance! Also, I'm thinking about attempting to maintain his head myself, between visits, but I'm scared cuz I have no idea what I'm doing!! It is easier to maintain, though, definitely: |

Just realized how bad the quality of that pic was so I have attached a better quality duplicate, apologies! |
He looks adorable. I would keep his leg hair the same. Also I keep Toto's belly hair a tad longer so he doesn't look so skinny and also help to hide his weiner! LOL You can TOTALLY see Teddy's! :sidesplt: |

ahahahahah yeah, I know - I mentioned that here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...hort-coat.html We are not ashamed of his larger than average manhood! I used to get the skirt but its more trouble than it's worth since he lifts his leg to pee and, consequently, pees on his legs and his skirt and everything else. This means I have to bathe him a LOT which negates the point of the short 'low-maintenance' haircut. hahahaha, great minds, though! |

HAHAHA! Toto's isn't quite as big so I just leave about 1/2" on his belly to help offset it. I know what you mean though, he had full coat before and whenever he lifted his leg it got all over his skirt. I tried hairclips but his hair is too dense and heavy and the clips would never stay in place for the length of a walk. |
Well, now that it has been officially established that my Teddy is the 'Errol Flynn' of the Yorkie world....LOL... I'm all paranoid about seeing my MIL this weekend with Teddy along! She'll no doubt be weirded out about it.. I think I have blinders on because I just see anatomy as anatomy and don't think about the societal sensitivities of his exposure..haha. I was going to ask a question..OH YES, how do we go about maintaining Teddy's head i.e. so he doesn't have to wear a top knot since I think he'll need one again, shortly, even if his body is short. Should I just leave it to grow until his next groom or butcher the poor boys head? So conflicted.. |
