I love topknots also. Toto has a great topknot. Uni's is more clipped back bc she doesn't have much hair. I don't think topknots are only a girls thing. I think it's a yorkie thing. Personally I don't know why people get yorkies and completely shave them down. Yorkies are known for their hair! |

So glad you all have been enjoying this thread. I haven't been on in a week and so happy you kept this going. Have a few nice pics on here to follow so this coming week is "The Week" I do the cut. I'll send you my progress. I know the cut will morph with skirt, long tail, braid and beard. Deuce doesn't have a big package to hide so I think I can go pretty short on the body. To Be Continued . . . PS Love Teddy's cut!!! |
3 Attachment(s) Max strained his giraffe neck this week, so when we returned home from the vet, I chopped his beard and topknot. I cut quickly, so this was the rough look: Attachment 405782 I have since cleaned it up, evened it out. We'll take more photos later. Reminds me of when he was a silly puppy: Attachment 405783 Teddy and Max before I chopped: my silly hairballs! Attachment 405784 |
I did it!!!!! 4 Attachment(s) I did it. Day 1. Did the Joey Cut. I still need to fix his head and a bit on the upper legs but it came out great!!! He had to play ball then ate dinner and was exhausted. Tomorrow is the touch up and bath. I love it! Hope all the pics attach. |
Blade size BTW I used a #7 Blade on the Andis for his body. This is the first time I've used it and I like it. |

I think we established that they both have Durrier in their lines. |

Your babies are beautiful!! Way to go for doing your own cut and surviving to tell the tale..lol! It looks great!! Teddy is due for another groom...are you free to pop by England later in June! :) |
It has been in the 90's here and its not even summer yet :thumbdown!!!! I want to cut Cooper's hair short because he loves to go outside and his hair is long now! But I am so scared to cut his hair :(:(:( |
Deuce is adorable sporting the Joey Cut! Great job. I can see he is enjoying it too. You are tempting me to really cut. :D Quote:

I can't tell you what it took just to shave it. I just did it. He's so cute but I love, love , love the long hair yorkie look. My heart aches when I see pics on here. So today when I combed him and found yet another tick. I'm glad I cut it! Uggghh. |
3 Attachment(s) Okay his puppy hair was getting way out of control, so off it went lol!!! |
I love how he's smiling in the first pic. He looks adorable!!! |
Thank you!!! He was happy to get all that hair off lol!!! |
Aww Cooper looks so happy. I started doing Lola's summer haircut, it's half done so one half is shortish and the other is floor length lol. I'm going to finish the other half in a little bit, make adjustments tommorrow, and trim her face another day. |
I cut Zippy's hair, whole body leaving head(trimmed by hand) and tail(left full), 1/4" guard about a month ago... it's really grown back in quite a bit. When I originally cut it, I had planned to use a 1/2" guard next time.... but seeing how fast it's grown, it'll be the 1/4 inch again relatively soon. |
I need to learn to do it myself and I think I am going to attempt to because it is getting expensive lol!!!!! |

I'm not familiar with all the cuts, but does anyone do a closer leg, short skirt and short face? (That sounds a little skeevy when I read it back, but y'all know what I mean!) I like to keep Joni's legs clipped shorter so she doesn't sweep up grass/leaves and resulting tangles. |

I started grooming Lola myself because I wasn't happy with the groomers attitude or the haircut and at $70 that's completely not acceptable. I'd rather mess her hair up myself and buy a buddy belt with the money. I also don't have to worry about her being mistreated or exposed to germs. Quote:

I am conflicted like you: love the look of a full coat (and Deuce has a gorgeous coat), but short hairstyles are so much easier and they are so cute! Wish I could have it both ways. |
3 Attachment(s) Here is the latest of Max's big beard cut (Capt Noonie/Priscilla isn't talking to me, nor is my dad :D.): Attachment 405953 Attachment 405954 Max hasn't gotten accustomed to his shorter beard although it has been nearly 3 weeks. The hard part about doing a shorter head with a full body is the dividing line where the beard meets the chest. I keep snipping and snipping and still end up with some longer hair where the two meet (doesn't help that my subject won't hold still :p): Attachment 405955 |
^^ I should add that I do not try to cut when Max's hair is that messy. He had just had lunch when I snapped the pics. |
Aww Max looks cute, what do you mean he isn't accustomed to it yet? I'm still trying to get Lola done, I need to do one leg, some blending/adjusting, and her ears. Yesterday I accidently poked her with the scissors, she screamed, (no injury and the scissors aren't pointy) and now she freaks out when I try to cut her hair. She's fine when I brush or comb her hair but freaks out when she sees the scissors. I got her to let me brush her and cut a few odd hairs, but I can't finish her leg and I'm not even gonna try her ears. |

Max doesn't like how his short beard gets wet in the water bowl. We use a glass custard bowl and his longer facial furnishings used to drape perfectly outside the bowl. If he is running or playing, he is fine. But when he is just walking around, he looks self conscious. Hard to explain. I think I know how he is feeling because I often let my hair grow long and then have it cut into a chin length bob. Feels weird for awhile. |
Aww poor Max, maybe elevating the bowl would help? I poked her body with the scissors while trying to cut her leg hair, I don't think I really hurt her. She'll scream and jump if I step on her hair. I don't tip her ears, all the hair is left at least an inch long so I don't have to get too close. |

Unfortunately I do not think elevating the water bowl for Max will help. A narrower bowl is the only possibility, but the ones we use are already so tiny. |
