| HELP! My 7 week old Yorkie still has short silky hair! I'm worried! My 7 week old yorkie girl still has short silky hair and is not fluffy! Three of her siblings are very fluffy, but one is just like her. I have seen both mom and dad. Both are clearly pure bred yorkies. I have seen both their multiple pedigrees and their AKC registrations. My breeder has no other breed of dog in her home. So she is confident that my little girl is pure bred. She has perfect yorkie markings and is jet black with rust markings on her eyebrows, feet, chest, ears and nose, very normal yorkie colors. She's just not fluffy! Her hair is long on her chest and tummy, just very thin. I am worried that maybe she was malnourished? Maybe her growth is a little stunted. She weighed 2.5 oz the day she was Born and weighs 1.25 pounds now. She is adjusting beautifully to our family, is eating hard food, drinking water, playing all the time, sleeping regularly, potty-ing normally, and is so so so sweet. So I love her regardless! I just want to be sure there is no underlying problem. Thanks! |

| Welcome to YT! First off, she is absolutely adorable. I don't have an answer to your question, but I'm sure someone else on here will. I am not too familiar with pups that young. I am just in shock that a breeder would let a pup go at such a young age. She is way to young and small and should still be with her momma. Just make sure you keep an eye on her and signs of hypoglycemia and take her to the vet asap if you haven't already! |

| Thank you! She is precious and I love her! I was concerned also about her being so young. But she really weaned fast because she was in such a large litter (6!!!) and mom was not taking care of them anymore! She is doing so well here and I have taken her to the vet! He said all is well thanks for the reply! |

| Cute puppy! Glad she is adjusting well. As Kreuer indicated, she is very young, so you will have to wait and see how her coat develops. Even AKC registered Yorkies are not all bred to 'standard,' the ideal characteristics determined for the breed. There might be some shorter coated Yorkies in previous generations of your pup's bloodlines. Different traits can show up in pups from the same litter.

| Welcome to YT and congrats on your new baby. Wow...7 weeks is so young to be taken from her mommy and siblings. Like Kreuger said above you really have to watch out for hypoglycemia because it can be so dangerous and happen so quickly. I don't know if you already have this, but I would go and purchase some Nutri-Cal and give her a little each day. My Remy had one incident of hypoglycemia with the breeder at around 10 or 11 weeks old. I did not pick up Remy until he was 18 weeks old. The breeder kept him because he was the runt of the litter and to make sure he was going to be ok. When I got him he was 1 lb 6 ounces so I gave him a little bit of Nutrical everyday and watched over him like a hawk. He has never had a hypoglycemic episode with me. I wish you the best and enjoy her! She is so precious looking!

| She is such a cutie and yes, so terribly young. Keep her healthy and happy and in time you will see how her coat develops- there is a lot that goes into coat genetics more behind it even than mom and dad so wait and see and cuddle that sweet little babe. I hope all goes well, welcome to yorkie talk

| Thank you! She is doing so so so well. And we are taking excellent care of her! I promise! And her coat has gotten fluffier just over the past few days. I think her litter mates were very dominate over her. And she did not get as much tlc and food as the others. Poor Chanel |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | The difference in a Silky Yorkie and a Cotton coated one shows up at a young age. Even at the age of 6-7 weeks of age you or at least I can tell if they will be Silk or Cotton coat. I've only been wrong a few times. From seeing your pics I would have to say that your baby is a silky coat and a very pretty pup.

For large breed pups no problem - for Yorkies the YTCA recommends 12 wks old for most pups.
