| Madan Brush for a Silky Coat I am thinking of trying one of these brushes for Oscar.. He has a fine ,straight Silky Coat .. I use a CC Wooden Pin Brush which is good for finishing but not so great at tangles.. I cannot use a comb on Oscar as his hair breaks easy.. If you have a Yorkie with a fine silky coat and you use this brush , How do you like it ? Does it break the hair or pull at all ? Which one should I get ? |

| We love our Madan brushes from www.toplinepet.com They are great on silky hair and do not break hair. For serious tangles, I use a comb to gently pull them apart. A tight tangle, I use the tail of a rat tail comb. For looser tangles, I take one small section at a time and use the mustache comb (Madan has one). What kind of comb are you using?

| I have the CC Buttercomb too. When you comb, hold small sections of hair in one hand and gently comb with the other hand. Start toward the bottom of the hair. Often a gentle touch is better for detangling. When I pull too hard, the tangle tightens.

| Did somebody say Madan? Thank you Kristin for linking my site. You gave excellent tips...I also use the super fine side of the Madan mustache comb to get stubborn tight massed mats out. I spray a detangling spray directly on the mat, rub it in w/my fingers, separate it w/ fingers too. I grab the most inner part of the hair near the skin & comb out the mat. If the mat is to the skin, I usu cut it off w/blunt nosed scissors. The boys don't tolerate me combing or brushing out mats very well...they're very sensitive. With Mimi, I use the Madan Small pin brush to brush out tangles. She tolerates brushing & hardly gets any tangles. But I have not brushed her for a full 2 weeks in winter time when she was wearing clothes 24-7 & have brushed the mats out w/out cutting anything. Took me an hr, but I did it w/a small pin brush by line brushing & a spray. I line brushed her, lifted up her hair & brushed downwards in layers. I also have the CC wood pin brush. It's a nice brush, esp for the face since it doesn't have pointy pins. But it really doesn't penetrate the hair like a pin would. I don't see how the wood pins can brush out tangles, esp a stubborn one.

Yes I do love the CC Wooden pin brush.. The problem is exactly what you said it does not penetrate the coat . I think it is mainly just for finishing.. Although Oscar's coat rarely tangles I would like to find a better brush.. What type of Madan brush should I use for him ? | |

I don't know what would be causing Pixie's hair to break off so easily & wonder if there's an underlying skin issue maybe? Does she itch @ all or does she rub or scratch her head?
