Donating YT 30K Club Member | Grooming shears What size and type of grooming shears do you use to trim yorkies in full coats? I have a 4.5" eickert curved scissors that I use but I think it is more more for paws and ears. Any recommendations on a good size and brand of shears to use to trim long coats on small yorkies would be appreciated. I want to keep it between 50 -80 dollars. Thanks

| My grooming instructor told us not to invest in expensive shears that cost hundreds of dollars...bc once you drop it, it's never the same. I personally have a couple favs. Monk is very nice if you want to shell out $75+. I have the Monk Blue 7.5" curved which I only used a couple of x's on special clients. Mostly standard poodles. Have a box of bandages near by, it's VERY sharp! You can see them here: Monk Colors Shears | groomerschoice.com I used this the most on my mobile grooming days. I have the 7 1/2". I think for toy-small breeds, 6 1/2" is perfect & 7 1/2" is good. Probably comes down to personal preference too. I also have the Master Grooming Tools 5200 Series Thinning Shears. https://www.petedge.com/zpetedgemain...c-locale=en_US @ home, I use Fromm shears. Momo is a wiggle worm & tries to attack any grooming tool, so I put the kiss-e collar on him. I like that it's inexpensive, sharp & the handle is comfy plastic, easy to grip onto. I can drop it & not have a heart attack loll. It got pretty good reviews on amazon: Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Fromm Premier 111BC 6 1/2 Ball Tip Curved Pet Barber Shear You can get it here, I have the 6.5" in curved & straight, both ball tip (I don't see the straight w/ball tip here): https://www.petedge.com/zpetedgemain...omm&minPrice=0

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks so much. Do you know anything about Kenchii shears. I'm looking at shears for a friend with a very small yorkie. She wants to start using shears. Want something of good quality but not cheap or expensive. Would you recommend getting curved or straight? Ball tip or not? I appreciate your help.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I have master series curved shears and also a master blending shears (use those on the ones cut down)....but my regular shears I purchase at Sally's beauty supply. They aren't terribly expensive and stay sharp for quite awhile. Really with full coats the only time you use scissors is trimming ears and around the paws.

As for ball tip or not, that's also personal preference & depending on your model. For Momo, I will never use anything but ball tip bc he attacks the grooming tools & moves around too much. I don't want to accidentally poke him or myself. When you're 1st starting out, I highly recommend getting an inexpensive one like Fromm or Top Performance (petedge brand) to get the hang of using the shears. It's good for practice too. After you get the hang of it, then you can invest in better shears if you'd like.
