| Question about grooming. I'm getting my puppy in a few weeks and I would like to keep his coat natural. I have a madan brush, all the combs, etc. I'm sure I will be able to do this. Now, my question. I've looked at tons of photos of yorkie pups, and in the young pups they have all this crazy hair on their faces. How do I get that to lay down? Do you put some kind of product on it? I also know that some photos it looks as though some of the nose is shaved? All these thoughts, I'm sure it will easier once I get him...

| Personally, I love those little puppy puffball faces It's really not that bad. I don't use product on any of my pup's faces just because I'm concerned it will be uncomfortable for them. I'm also afraid they might get it in their eyes when they're rolling around playing. The only issue I have with my puppy, is the hair on top of her head. I keep that in a topknot. Otherwise, she won't be able to see. Some people shave the inner part of the eye...where it meets with the bridge of the nose...to keep the hair out of the eyes. If you search "Yorkie face grooming" on YouTube, you'll probably find a video of how it's done.

| I love that fluffy, puppy look too. I don't use any product either & I use a baby's soft toothbrush to gently brush the hair near their eyes & round the muzzle. |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | The eye hair will be a bit uncontrollable for quit some time until it gowns out long enough for it to ether lay down or be put up in a top knot. I keep it cut/shaves on three of my four and have just started letting my four yr old Ruby's eye hair grow out to add to her top knot. I would not suggest putting any product in it., Feel free to check out my web site for grooming tips that will be helpful on keeping your pup groomed properly. Grooming - Dawn's Yorkies

| You can put the hair on top of the head in a hairband. but other than that it's just letting it get long enough to where the hair weighs it down or cutting it off. Most products from what I hear works ok if you want to take a few pics and maybe a bit longer, but not to keep it down all day without needing to reapply all the time. Especially, since they'll be taking naps in every which way, rolling over, and constant playing.

I'm with you and cautious about products on the face because I am worried about eye health and comfort. I do use a little topknot gel on occasion, but prefer to let my guys go natural.

| I would advise against cutting the hair around your pups eyes. I never had any trouble with the hair around Phoebes eyes until the vet shaved her face for cataract surgery. Now it's so scraggly looking, and I feel like it's poking her in the eyes. It's growing sooo slowly, I can't wait till it grows back to pre surgery length!

| If you can, please DO NOT cut the hair on the nose between his eyes. It will be a pain in the butt to grow out, but it will be SO worth it! If he goes to get groomed, tell & show the groomer that you DO NOT want them to touch the hair between his eyes. For some reason, some groomers get scissor happy & cut the hair between the eyes bc it's poking the eyes or getting in the way of their vision or something. I get the Madan brush, cover their eyes w/my other hand w/my fingers & brush down the hair on the sides of their mouth/mustache. It works well @ training the hair to lay down...but it will spring back up once they do the shake loll. You can also use any comb or wash cloth.
