| Growing out a coat Mason has a silky coat and Bentley (biewer) has a soft coat that appears silky, too, but it is thicker than Mason's. I have always kept them short, but have decided to grow their coats out. Mason has not been cut since May 2012. It is about 1/2, maybe less from the floor. Bentley, was cut short about a month ago. Does it normally take a long time to get a full coat? Or does this mean, Mason can't grow a full coat? It has been 15 months since he has been cut. Are there any products that you would suggest I try to speed up the growth process? I have been using Espree products as well as PEK conditioner. I only use PEK about once a month on all 3 of my pups, though. Should I increase the frequency? Thanks in advance! Last edited by Fatalivy; 08-24-2013 at 04:03 AM. |

| Some are very slow @ growing their hair, esp the silky ones. Could it be that it's also breaking off from the bottom? Ideally, the hair should be wrapped so it doesn't get damaged. Princess has very slow growing hair that never touched the floor, it would break off bc it was very fine. Her hair was perfect for growing long bc it never tangles, but it never made it to the floor. I don't know of any supplements or product to help hair growth, I personally think it has a lot to do w/genetics.

| Thanks! Maybe I will look into wrapping to see how to do it. |

| I have 2 with silky hair. Dolly's hair hits the floor & I cut an inch off at least every other month. It grows like a weed & stays thick all the way to the floor. Teena's hair breaks off & I keep it only a little longer than her body. Anything longer than that would be very thin. Teena wears clothes every day & that doesn't mess with her hair. Dolly's hair was a mess the few times she's worn clothes. I think it's best to see what style fits each Yorkie, but I sure wouldn't make mine run around with their hair up in papers any more than I'd run around every day with rollers in my hair! Good luck to you.

| I can tell you what I've done to help Mandie's as hers really was breaking off around her spine. I use a good conditioner called Nova Pearl, a serum from Espree called Show Style Aloe Silk, a spray on leave-in conditioner to groom her daily - it has a base of argan oil, and I give her a 1/4 tsp of Halo Dreamcoat with her food about 2 or 3 times a week. With that said, I do agree that genetics plays a role. I can't get her beard to grow any longer than it is now.
