I can tell you what I've done to help Mandie's as hers really was breaking off around her spine.

I use a good conditioner called Nova Pearl, a serum from Espree called Show Style Aloe Silk, a spray on leave-in conditioner to groom her daily - it has a base of argan oil, and I give her a 1/4 tsp of Halo Dreamcoat with her food about 2 or 3 times a week.

With that said, I do agree that genetics plays a role. I can't get her beard to grow any longer than it is now.
