Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Help ! ! As you all know I went away for a week. Well I came back and Galen's coat is full of large mats. There are some quite large ones. I want to cry. I need your opinion. Do I try to get them out or do I just cut him and let it grow back?

| ITWM, I would try to get them out, but if it's too difficult, might be worth shaving him...

| My groomer told me she uses thinning scissors to cut the mats. This breaks the mat/knot but you don't loose a large chunk of hair.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | OMG He is beautiful. I would try and get as many out as you can. I would take a few days to work on them so he doesn't get too stressed.

| Poor Galen! I wish we lived closer so that I could come over and help you. I PM'ed a bunch of suggestions before you resort to cutting.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | She said she gave him a bath too. I don't think she blow dried him. A couple of mats are 5 inches long. His are one big mat. And huge mat under his chin.

YT 2000 Club Member | dog Galen is beautiful but I would not hurt him by trying to pull out those mats. When they are too bad I cut them out. His fur will grow back and he will be fine. I trim my boys back when it is hot anyway. Those mats hurt bad when one pulls on them or trys to release the tangle. If there is a conditioner that would get them out I would try that but if all else fails and it hurts him, cut them. Remember how we used to tease our hair up by ratting it? It would hurt like the dickens to get those rats out. Poor Galen, same pain. I hope you get this problem solved soon. He is such a neat dog! |
