Luma has an apt. tuesday So I bit the bullet and called the groomer (who I work for) to tell her the appointment is on...we've been talking a lot about what I want to do with her for the summer. I still don't know and now I'm regretting scheduling the appointment!! Ugh. Okay, Lumas hair is silky and pretty thin on the legs, thicker on the saddle more cottony towards her booty. It's getting ridiculous trying to groom her every day. She used to enjoy being brushed by mommy, our girl time. I cna just tell she's over it and honestly so am I. I wanted her in full coat. She's slowly (VERY slowly) getting to floor lengtj buuuut....im done lol. It honestly looks like a mess. Her hair is too wavy and piecey to grow out. Soooooo...haircut suggestions? I wanted to do a shaved saddle witj long legs, but the whole reason I wanted to have her cut for the summer is that stuff gets stuck in her armpit hair and leg hair and its painful to remove the prickers, etc. I don't want to shave her down completely....she'll look like a dachshund if I do that bc shes sooooooo long haha. What else can I do? Pictures would be great....any summer haircuts... Oh and her face hair is very long too and I want to keep the topknot for sure but am willing to cut the beard a bit. |
I keep the long leg hair and short saddle on Jada and Bogie..I also shave the belly area and the armpits and a little bit of the inside on their legs. You cant tell it is shaved under there and it makes grooming a breeze. ( I shave inside the leg down to the elbow) |
I hope a lot of people post pics because I have been all on google looking for a summer cut for Honey. I took her to the park and stuff was stuck on her and I dont think she liked me getting it off. |
i like you carmen have bitten the bullet all three of mine go tomorrow. i found a picture of what i want but its at home ill try to find it again...and post it. i want mine more like jada and hope thats what they leave the groomer looking like. lol best wishes for lumas groom tomorrow. |

The entire reason I ever wanted a Yorkie was because of their long hair. Hmmm, I'll have to think about it. Also, the length you see Mandie's now? It has taken since the end of August to get to this point. It grows so slow! And her hair on her legs is still pretty thin. If I got that cut, it might not look right...that pup looks like it has fluffy legs. Post pics of yours when you get them done, ok? :) |

Okay I really like that pic too, its what I was going for but Lumas leg hair.is pretty thin and a while bavk I got annoyed with her paw hair and hacked it off so her upper leg hair is longer than her ankles and feet!! I'm worried she will look silly!! But I do really like that cut. Esp because the face is still long. What kind of notes sjould I give the groomer for this cut?! |
I used to have a pic on ky phone of a YT members yorkie Zhoie that was tje exact example of what I wanted. She's Tena's, right? Let me look.... |
well im going to be sure she doesnt take the ears down that short at the tip. i dont need the leg hair as long but i want to see the definition from body to leg change for sure. maybe just tell her about wanting luma's leg hair to look like it goes with the cut im so sure they will do an excellent job though carmen. it may blend alot better than you are imaginning. not sure if that tena? but she sure is cute. |
1 Attachment(s) After some stalking.....here is the Beautiful Zhoie!! I fell in love with this cut the first time i saw it! Ahhhh :) Here's the thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...like-wind.html |
Thats a cute cut and with all the different hair lengths and textures that you say Luma has going on it should be a good cut for her. If you walk in the the groomer with a photo and an idea in mind. You'll be very upset if you walk out with something totally unexpected! So give instructions on how long you expect the hair to be on her legs, ears, butt chest, face and head. Plus the eyes, and nose. Do you want the groomer to shave her inner eye hair and the rim of her nose? (most do) I've started doing it with my four and I like it. My sister always shave the arm pits to prevent the matting and you can always ask them to do that for you. Be sure the groomer knows what you want before you walk out the door .Cant wait to see the new LUMa !! |
2 Attachment(s) Here's our current situation...I just took the first pic to illustrate her current hair length. Second pic is from a few weeks ago. Wow, she looks sooo unkempt its embarssing! We shaved her down completely when she was around 5 months old and since then I havent touched her hair besides hacking her leg/foot hair ouy of frustration. I may work at a groomers but they don't let me near any scissors, for obvious reasons  So! With the pics provided do you think she would look okay with the shaved saddle, long legs look? Obviously it won't look as good as Zhoie bc her leg hair is thin and I have to grow out the hair on her feet. |
2 Attachment(s) Here is Peanut.. Once she is cut I think you will love it!! I love snuggin with Peanut right after a groom!! The groomer will leave his legs kings “hairy” he has such long legs if they are cut super short it looks off- so when she leaves them hairy it makes his cut look super cute! This was right after he had a dental so you can see where they shaved him for the IV. Of course they had to do both legs!! |
2 Attachment(s) I think she would. I myself prefer the same cut but with a saddle like I do Ruby. Its called a Modified Schnauzer Cut. You could even have the groomer cut the saddle shorter if you wanted. I added a pic of Ruby fresh after her first MSC. I keep her head and face longer since the first pic was taken. I think either cut would be a great look for Luma and Less upkeep for you. |

And for shaving at 5 months (about as long ago as Mandie was shaved), her hair has grown back fast. Mandie's is so slow to grow. |

I attribute the shine to the Halo Dreamcoat supplement I started putting on her food about 6 months ago when she was having horrible allergies. I swear by this stuff. It seriously changed her skin drastically!! |

1 Attachment(s) I LOVE this cut...The Joey Cut...it's like the Zhoie cut. Here's the thread & a pic. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...ut-shaved.html |
I am just loving the Joey/Zhoie :) Carmen, yes..where do you buy the halo dreamcoat? |
I bought it on chewy.com when I started buying Lumas food online. Although I think Rhonda was looking at the ingredients and saw something she didn't really like. I think it was the garlic oil. I haven't had any problems with it. Luma had dry, red skin and would bite her legs. Now she doesnt. It works for us and it makes her hair shiny. :) |
Mandie's hair baffles me. It breaks and gets really frizzy along her back/spine. The rest is perfect. But her body doesn't shine...not at all. Her face still has some bright silver around it and THAT shines - in pics, it really stands out. I'm still searching for that perfect shampoos and conditioner. I love the grooming spray I use but I keep trying other sprays to help those hairs on her back that break and frizz. Arg lol I am going to try this halo stuff :) |
