Best thing I use for any mats is the Tangle Teezer brush which takes the knots out easily.

I just bought one of those. I think it was Breezeway who recommended it on another thread. It's so gentle that Scarlett doesn't mind me brushing her at all.

Where do you find a tangle teeser? Sounds like something I need, having both a silk coat and a cotton coat dogs, and living in ND my dogs need warm clothes!
