HELP PLEASE! For everyone who dresses their long haired yorkies..Any tips? Jesse has a silky coat, it's getting fairly long now, and I brush him daily to keep the tangles away. It has been so cold lately, I have to bundle him up, yesterday just going to the car I had to put a sweater and coat on him! I ponytail sections of the hair so it won't mat under all the clothing and this helps, but there is still hair that I can't ponytail..armpits for example. I felt so bad for Jesse last night when I took off the clothing, he had little mats I had to work out. I've seen so many pics of long haired yorkies dressed up. What do you all do to prevent mats? Any secrets, tips you can share? |
I keep three in coat and honestly when you see pictures of them dressed up...it was for the picture. Snow days everyone did wear coats to go outside for a bit. In the long run clothes destroy coats. Sorry I'm not much help. |

But to second the other poster, yup clothes do mat Yorkie hair, Razzle is always wrapped and before I put on his winter jacket/snowsuit, he has his silk wrapping jacket on. |

Darlene, I was told to use the clippers to shave their armpits, chest, bellies, etc. These are areas that people don't normally see anyway - and it's true. They look the same but so much less matting to worry about. |

Some one the other day posted the tip of using V05 Hair dressing to keep matting at bay. It's worth a try. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...e-matting.html I just bought some to try on Scarlett, because she's the matting queen. If it doesn't work, I'll try shaving her underside. |
Mine have been spending their days in fleece pajamas since it tends to get drafty on the floor and that is where their little beds are during the day. I find that everyone is getting snarled. Teddy's hair is to the floor and he has very silky hair but it gets snarled too. I'll be watching to see if there are any tips. |

It can get oily if you put in too much. Use just a tiny (pea sized) drop and rub it in your hands before you put it in the hair. My youngest daughter has really fine hair, and this helps her immensely with the "fly aways" during the winter. |

My only tip is I usually only put clothes on Piccolo for special occasions, because it does mess up her coat and cause tangles. But, I do play around with her hairbows everyday. :) |
Darlene: wrapping jackets website try www.lainee.com But they won't eliminate mats, just helps with hair breakage. Most wrap dog first then put on wrapping jacket. I like the shaving idea, I shave Razzle's tummy, and around his penis, you could certainly do under the arms etc, it does make a big difference for the matting. Nothing worse than tummy mats...uch. |
I don't put clothes on Louis, except for pictures. He hates to wear clothes and if I keep a sweater on him all day he gets terrible mats under his arms. Hopefully someone will be able to help you! :) |
